This place is mainly known for the paninis but their soups are pretty good too, and I don't usually like soups. I don't have a favorite sandwich since I like them all equally. I don't eat pork so I haven't tried anything with ham. The salads that accompany the sandwiches are simple leafy greens but the dressing is what makes them very good. I would definitely recommend the chai tea with vanilla soy milk, it is one of the best if not the best I've ever had. I would not consider the price for the sandwiches on the cheap side but they are reasonable. The place is pretty small so I would recommend ordering to go.

Very good selection of panini's and salads. Good and quick service. We sat outside (it was a beautiful day) because there's not much seating inside.

The J Cafe is a great spot to get breakfast near the Portland Convention Center. It is across the street from our not so lovely Motel 6 so it was an easy walk for us. The place is only open for breakfast and lunch and not on weekends. We ended up eating here a couple of mornings. It is a very simple place. Not much in decor other than the art work on the wall that are for sale. The man who took our order the first time was very nice. Come to find out on their website, he is the owner. I figured as much. He even wished us a safe trip back on the second morning we were there. As for the paninis, they are wonderful. You can create your own, but we mainly ordered off the menu. The one with the basil and pesto was ordered by my Mom both times and it was enjoyed immensely. I ordered the other 2 on separate occasions and enjoyed them both. All have eggs which were great. The ones I had were a ham/Swiss and a bacon/cheddar. Both cheeses were the Tillamook variety. Synonymous with Oregon. They come with some fruit, but you can order a bowl for $2 extra. The fruit was wonderful too. Not a bad breakfast for $4-$6. Beats a fast food breakfast any day. If I am down that way again, I'll make sure I stop again. Maybe try their lunch. May be a bit hard to find if driving down the main road. It is off to the side a bit. If you were to pull into the Motel 6 parking lot and look north, you'll see it. Great find near the Convention Center. Don't miss it.
