Over the past 8 weeks I have eaten here about 7x. Each time perfect execution. Love this place and have eaten here when visiting Portland for almost 20 years. I always leave with a wow!

They have daily specials and currently chinook salmon is in season. They prepare this dish in varying ways but current set up is amazing with peas and pea tendrils. It's Devine,

Great wines by glass list and your servers are amazing.

For dessert, don't miss the Nebbiolo poach plums with marsscapone cheese. To die for,

Thank Richard N

We really enjoyed this place, but before I would label this a great Italian restaurant I would put it into perspective more as an Italian fusion restaurant putting together local tastes with traditional Italian accents and dishes. Chinook salmon, lamb chops, and roasted pork chops don't bring back familiar memories of my times in northern Italy and Sicily, but they are accented well and there are the traditional pasta and pizze in this quaint "caffe". The lamb chops (2) were very good but not the best I have ever had, salmon was very good with a nice seared crust to it with good accents but the pea tendrils were chewy. Kale salad was excellent as was the chicken, tomato saffron soup of the day. Great crusty bread arrived upon being seated. Excellent wine choices. Receptionist a bit indifferent to our arrival and seemed a bit zoned out for a Thursday night, but the waitress was excellent with lots of recommendations and soliciting feedback from our meal. Put this in the $100 category for starters, entries and wine for two.

We were a party of five and received very good service after meeting in the bar next door. The bread and appetizers were excellent for starters and our waiter was very helpful in selecting wines to accompany our main courses. They do not serve local wines, but the Italian varietals were quite diverse and of excellent quality. Every person at the table was well satisfied with their selection and the overall presentation and preparation. We were too full after cleaning our plates so we chose to have a cup of coffee rather than desserts which looked delectable as well. The individual who selected this cafe lives in the neighborhood and indicated he has always had the same kind of excellent food and service. So we will go back - soon,

Very small place (consider going with a group of 4 for a bigger table, the 2 tops are tiny) with excellent service and food! It's not inexpensive (1 salad, 2 entries, 2 glasses of wine almost $100) but the value is there. They split the excellent butter leaf salad for us and there was more than enough food. I had the Halibut, served in broth but it still held firm and was very very good. DH had the lamb special tagliatelle and it was a bit dry but decent. For Italian in Portland, Caffe Mingo is right at the top!

When we told our guest that we were going to one of the top Italian restaurants in Portland and gave her the name she said, "I had a fabulous dinner there last night and I want to go again."
Not that is a great review... The scene is intimate and the staff top notch. The kitchen is on display and lives up to its stellar ratings. Reservations are a must even considering that you go next door to Bar Mingo to have a drink while you wait. Be sure to give careful consideration to the specials they are always extra good.
