“Lasagna Is Really Good...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014

We really enjoyed the marinara sauce was awesome!!! My husband ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce and sent it back. He said it taste like the chili on a chili dog. So he re-ordered the lasagna. The sourdough bread was tasty. Salads were good, but I did not care for the honey mustard dressing. We didn't know this before hand but all their meals INCLUDE Iced tea or coffee products, salads, bread and ice cream afterwards.

“Back again, still a fun place and a great deal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

Apparently, some of the "foodies" in Portland look down their noses at this restaurant. Frankly, we love this place and have been patronizing it for more than 25 years. Most recently, we took our adult sons and one of their girlfriends there while visiting them in Portland this November. As always, we were warmly greeted, and the service was attentive, courteous and upbeat. And the atmosphere was great: good views of the Willamette River and Ross Island, the beautiful antiques inside the building, etc. Plus, the food was still great and the portions generous. And the price is amazingly low, especially for full dinners (including salad, unlimited bread and spumoni ice cream).

Any change in the two years since we last visited? Well, the surrounding area (South Waterfront) has been developed, with fancy apartment complexes and office buildings, plus the aerial tram. So, the restaurant is now in the center of activity. Otherwise, same quality dining experience.

We have been to some of the trendy Italian restaurants that Portland foodies rave about. We couldn't stand them. Servers were heavily tattooed and pierced, and had aloof, surly attitudes. Tables were crammed together. Portions were small and outrageously overpriced. Everything was stacked on the plate in weird piles. Some ingredients were downright weird.

The Old Spaghetti Factory delivers a very different experience. Foodies hate it, the rest of us (families, seniors, budget-minded folks, normal people) love it. Our full spaghetti meals at OSF cost one third what we paid at a certain, trendy foodie joint.

“Always a nice place to have a meal !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

My family has dined at the OSF for decades, always a good meal for the price. The dark cherry color of the woodwork and beautiful antique lamp shades give the restaurant a warm, homey atmosphere. Wait staff are mostly young, college students. They are attentive, courteous and always sporting a smile but also very busy. If you are a picky diner and need constant attention from your server (go home to mommy), you'll be less then happy. Last night it was a part of a romantic evening with my girlfriend; we were seated at a riverside window, tough to beat the view as the sunsets and city lights start to glow.

Marked all ratings excellent except for service, only four stars. We are used to their quick service but when dinner arrives and our salad plates are still half full, makes for a less then perfect dining experience.
