“You can't beat the atmosphere”
Reviewed 11 November 2013 via mobile

The Timbers have an amazing fan base and play in an intimate stadium. The Timbers Army is as close to the spirit and passion of true soccer fans as you will ever find this side of the Atlantic. The stadium needs grass (turf is not a good surface) but otherwise a great place for a game. The team seems to be doing well and their performance reflects the fans passion. Great diverse range of micro-brews. Tickets are hard to get, so plan ahead. The general admission section is home to the Army, it's a different atmosphere, standing and singing the whole 90 minutes. You may get beer spilled on you or hear some profanity, but give it a try, these are the true fans. The rest of the seats are all good and enjoyable, more like American football crowds. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

“Fun Evening at Timbers Gane”
Reviewed 2 November 2013 via mobile

It's tough to get tickets to these sell-out games, but worth the time and expense. The team is playing well and the Portland fans engage in non-stop chants that provide an exhilarating background roar. Jeld-wen Park is a terrific venue.

“We Are Here to Root for the Timbers!”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

This year I received the best Father's Day gift ever. My son, James, purchased tickets for the MLS (major league soccer) Timbers vs the Colorado Rapids. Through Craigs List, he managed two tickets to sit in the Timbers Army section of Jeld Wen Field.

Jeld Wen Field (named for a local window company) is the most recent iteration of Multnomah Stadium, which in some form or another has occupied this site since 1893. Back when dinosaurs roamed Burnside, i attended college football games and the AAA baseball Portland Beavers in Multnomah Stadium. The MLS made a deal with the City of Portland, creating a single use field for soccer. The seating areas are much improved and the vast majority of seats are covered. (As the Rose City is no stranger to precipitation, covered seats are actually a pretty big deal.) The actual pitch is a first rate surface for soccer. In the process, Portland lost its AAA baseball team.

I was vaguely aware of the Timbers Army, the group that comes to each game to support the Timbers. The Army sits in the end zone (actually they stand throughout most of the game) and clap sing and chant in unison through out the contest. I found it both delightful and amazing. If you follow in my footsteps, you might want to sit above the rail where the noise level is a little lower. I reveled in the infectious camaraderie of the Army section.

This year the young franchise has a new coach, Caleb Porter. He has put together a winning team. On the day of my visit, Portland scored first and then played a wonderful defensive game, frustrating the opposition with their patience and organization. The Timbers Army, knowledgeable fans, patiently supported this disciplined defensive game continuously. It was an awesome experience.

Who knows how long the Timbers will benefit from Coach Porter. If you are a charismatic fan of soccer, i'd get a ticket today and sit with the Timber Army.
