We were staying across the road at McMenamins Historic hotel and thought we'd pop across.

Delicious food! - although rather pricey if you go there for dinner. We went there for both lunch and dinner and was shocked at the pricing difference between lunch and dinner. We eat there 3 times in 24 hours! Lunch for 2 was $23-$30, Dinner for 2 set us back $75!! With pretty much the same atmosphere, needless to say next time we will stick only to the lunch menu.

Favorite dish was the Seafood Gumbo! Clam Chowder & Oyster Stew were both very good. Didn't like the Liver & Onions or the Chicken Marsala dishes very much (which is on the lunch & dinner menu- half price during lunch).

This is a classic. I've been here several times and the food is always delicious, drinks/wine good and service excellent. It does have a sort of "touristy" feel. Good enough to keep going back almost every time I'm in downtown Portland.

We've stopped for lunch many times, and we always order the Blue Plate Special. We've enjoyed Mahi Mahi, Cajun Steelhead, and horseradish crusted Salmon. All wer excellent with sauteed vegies and real mashed potatoes. All that for around $10.00.

Thank Ugene

Jake's is the best and priciest seafood restaurant in Portland. Pleasant atmosphere, expansive menu, good wine selection and superb preparation and presentation. Hint: Jake's is the grandaddy of McCormick and Schmick (a seafood chain that is also represented at several locations in Portland, but not nearly the quality of Jake's). You can use McCormick and Schmick gift cards at Jake's - so, if you plan to eat at Jake's and are a member of Costco (where McCormick and Schmick gift cards are sold at $79.99 for $100 face value, stop at Costco first, buy your McCormick and Schmick gift card(s), and then use it (them, as the bill will no doubt be over $100) at Jake's, effectively trimming 20% from what is otherwise a rather staggering bill for seafood.

After reading many reviews of restaurants in Portland, we decided on Jake's Famous Crawfish and we were not disappointed. We were also very glad we had made reservations because the restaurant was quite crowded early on a Monday night. The service was excellent and our waiter made some helpful suggestions as the menu is quite extensive. He also recommended a good local wine. We shared mussels for an appetizer and they were a nice size in an excellent garlic sauce. My husband had petrale sole which was great. I had the best salmon I ever ate. The prices are somewhat high but the quality is the best.
