“too beautiful to describe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

There are so many beautiful things to see/do/experience on this island that it would be silly trying to condense it in few words.
I used to go there initially just to bike around and pick blackberries... of course there is much more.

If you have a car, you need to have a permit unless you just go to a farm.

Be careful since during the week-end there is a lot of fast traffic.

There is a clothing optional beach and some other river beaches.A nice place to take the sun and enjoy sand on Portland's sunny days. Pleasant and worth visiting.

“Waterbirds and more”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2013

Sauvie Island (pronounced "Sophie's" Island by locals) is a diked-in farm, wildlife and sporting area just below the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. Once subject to spring flooding, it now produces a tremendous amount of fresh produce for the Portland metro area. Its a great place to go to see wildlife, or just spend some time in a relaxing rural area. TIP: Don't go on sunny weekends, or any time between mid-October and Thanksgiving. The narrow bridge and two-lane roads get very crowded.
