“Good stay, weird room layout”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

My husband and I stayed here because we were attending an event at the Expo Center. Realize that there are 3 Marriotts in this location, so know which one you are staying at.

Initially we were dismayed to find that breakfast didn't start until 7:30 am on weekends as we had to be at the Expo Center by 8 am. We were told there might be fruit and juice available early, but possibly not much, if at all. We came down at 7:20 am to check out and found everything already set up and people eating. If we would have known we would have come down earlier to eat, but were happy we were able to get in some sausage, juice and fruit before heading out. My husband said the eggs were runny and I felt the doughnuts were dry or day old. But there were other choices too. My husband tried some pancakes as well.

I realize this is a Residence Inn, which is for longer term stays which we didn't really need, but the layout was off for trying to watch TV from the couch or the bed.

The wi-fi was good for awhile, then would go out, then would be good again. If you needed it for work purposes it might not be reliable.

Although we did hear planes (you are in the flight path of the airport) it didn't keep us awake. We both had a restful nights sleep.

We did purchase items from the store near the front desk and felt the prices were pretty reasonable.

Getting to this hotel is difficult. Narrow entry streets and sketchy surroundings. HOWEVER, once you are parked and in the door it's a fine Residence Inn. Staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. Hotel is clean and quiet. You will have to drive or swim to find food, but not too far.

We usually stay in downtown Portland when visiting but for one night we decided to give the Residence Inn a try. What a happy surprise! The property was extremely well kept- our room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, the layout of the suite was functional and the kitchenette was well stocked with seemingly brand new utensils and cookware. The 4th (top) floor was very quiet. The breakfast featured a wide variety of decent hot and cold items and fresh pineapple and bananas. Zipping into and out of City center was a cinch. There is a pedestrian pathway to nearby Delta Park for a nature break from the highways surrounding the property. We traveled with our dog and were delighted to find this pet friendly property exceed our expectations inside and out.

Stayed here 2 nights during the Rose City Dog Show in January. Instead of banning furlegged family members, this hotel embraces and truly welcomes them! Very cool!
Very friendly staff, clean and well equipped rooms/suites of good standard and size. Gas fireplace in our room. Perfectly OK breakfast (served until 10.30 on weekends) and good coffee available 24/7.
Plenty of poop bag holders (and garbage containers) outside.
Location is a bit odd, but only 10 minute walk to the Expo, and if walking dogs, there are miles of levees to walk on along the river, all with a great view out over the marinas and the masses of house boats.

Few minor negatives:
Outdoor pool and hot tub truly looked inviting but I was told they were closed for the winter (can easily venture over the the two neighboring Marriott properties for indoor pools, like 40 yards away).
Door locks are of very good quality, but also noisy when closing the door from the outside (had to walk dog four times during the night and there was no way I could avoid making a noise when closing the door - but don't think I woke anyone up either).
Thermostat in rooms almost to precise. Set it for 70F and turn on the gas fireplace, and you will experience the A/C running, dumping cold air down your spine to keep the temp "down" (there is no "heat only" mode, you have to turn it off completely - just don't forget to turn it on again before going to bed).
Really no restaurants nearby, unless you like the "franchise fare" you can find at Janzten Beach (5 min drive), but drive to Portland's funky neighborhoods is not far.
The area is still under slow development, so my guess is that the restaurant situation will improve over time.

Room Tip: Pick view over pool/courtyard, or out over the river - and if weahter is good Mount S;t Helens in th...

Stayed here during the Thanksgiving Weekend in the two bedroom suites for $110. Suite had 1 king bedroom and 1 queen bedroom both with ensuite bathroom, full kitchen, living room with pullout bed. The breakfast was very good and different each morning for the hot foods (sausage, eggs, potatoes - 3 choices). The usual cereals, oatmeal, fruit, pastry, waffles, juice are available. The only negative thing I can say is that the coffee is awful. Very very weak.

The location is close to Vancouver, Washington and there are no restaurants within walking distance to the hotel except Subway. A couple of minute drive to Jantzen Beach, you can find lots of restaurants.

The distance to downtown Portland is not far in a car.

A recent weekend trip to Christmas shop led me to the Residence Inn Portland North Harbor, as they had excellent rates ($84/night for a one-bedroom suite). My goal was to finish or be nearly finished with Christmas shopping this weekend.
I normally stay at HiltonHHonors properties as I am Gold, and only Silver with Marriott Rewards, but decided to try this property. It is just off I-5 and across the Columbia River from Vancouver, WA, close to the newly emerging Jantzen Beach Center (home to many big box retailers). The hotel sits back off Marine Drive (which will take you to PDX in less than 15 minutes) on a cul-de-sac with a Courtyard by Marriott and Fairfield Inn & Suites. All three offer shuttle service to/from PDX. One note – the area where these properties are located sit directly below the flight path of aircraft landing or taking off from PDX. I did not really notice the noise so it wasn’t a problem.
Check-in was quick and efficient, greeted by a friendly and helpful staff member. I was off to my room in minutes and settled in. I booked a 1-bedroom King suite and noticed a gas fireplace in the living room area. What a nice touch! I appreciated having the separate work desk and dining table. The one thing I did notice was the size of the bedroom. With the king bed not much space was left to walk around easily, which was not a major reason to not return. The suite was comfortable and quiet.
Breakfast is included in the room price at Residence Inn, and is the typical free breakfast offering with some hot items and cold items. Nothing special but appreciated. The only negative comment is the lack of table space this particular morning. I ended up taking the food up to my room. If the hotel were to be full and sold out I don’t know where and how all of the guests would be accommodated! Just saying.
If you are looking for a hotel close to downtown Portland, this will not fill the bill. If you are driving or have a vehicle, this hotel is close to North Portland shopping (Jantzen Beach Center, Cascade Station) and just across the river from Vancouver, WA. Just a word of caution, I-5 at morning and afternoon rush hour can be very slow.
I would stay at this hotel again, knowing the proximity to Jantzen Beach Center, the size of suites, and location. Great location if you are planning a trip out to the Columbia Gorge, or a trip up to Mount St. Helens.

A group of us stayed in 2 of the 2 bedroom suites for a ladies conference the weekend of Oct 25th & 26th. Having 2 bathrooms in each suite was wonderful. We had great service from all the staff. The breakfast was great with lots of healthy choices. The hotel next door is also a Marriott property, so during cold weather you can use the indoor pool and hot tub. The rooms were clean and beds were comfy. We will be staying here again for sure. The previous reviews I read that complained about the breakfast and the size of the bedrooms, maybe they need to pay$400 a night and stay in a 5 star resort. This was a great value for the money.
