“Good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for the location as next to some good restaurants and being in a nice neighbourhood. We enjoyed eating in the area- pok pok. Artigiano, salt and straw.

We chose the cheapest room. It's quite stuffy and basic but was fine for our purposes. Didn't get disturbed by noise above- would have been more convenient if toilet on same floor. Also no wifi from our room.

We spent little time in there enjoying the terrace and sitting rooms instead. Great to have kitchen to supplement breakfast and to store wine.

I liked it but my husband felt uncomfortable with having to use the shared facilities on another floor . For the location, I preferred this to a soulless motel even with shared facilities- and was about same price.

Breakfast ok but would have preferred better orange juice, some bread rather than just pastries and milk rather than just half & half. We bought from the grocery on Hawthorne to supplement what was there.

Useful to be able to do laundry there too.

Not sure if would return- probably would prefer to spend more in a similar location.

We stayed on a Wednesday/Thursday/Friday. Lovely older home on Division, close to Hawthorne and still far enough away to be quiet. The price was great- only about $250 in total. There was no "check in" station or greeter. Instead we got a door code through email and an open bedroom with a welcome letter and a key in the lock. Check out was the same. The B&B has a lovely breakfast, including pancakes if you want to make them, bagels, spreads, cream cheese, pastries and fruit. The gluten-free pastries were all too sweet for me. There was plenty of coffee too and the kitchen is stocked and available if people want to cook. Everyone cleaned up after themselves very well and seemed to be a lot like us- in search of a quiet place that isn't a chain hotel. There were couples and also a few families. You can play games in the parlor, play the guitar that's present or hang out on the front or back porch.
I will warn you- there are two showers and 3 bathrooms in the place, so you just can't be shy about that sort of thing. It was much easier than it sounds. This is someplace we will stay again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Stay on the 2nd floor if you can- quiet and near facilities.

This guesthouse is tucked away on a small property on Division St in SE Portland. It is not the traditional B&B as there is no one preparing breakfast for the guests--they are on their own though bagels and muffins, coffee and tea are available. (First one in the kitchen turns on the coffee.) People feel free to buy food, store it in the refrigerator and cook as they please. Judging by our stay there recently, the upstairs rooms with shared baths are small but comfortable; the downstairs suite with private bath was more to our liking. The property itself is early 20th century, with dark wood inside. The outside is nothing to write home about. There is free internet access on the guest house computer. If you are looking for a low-key comfortable rental in SE Portland, you might want to check out Bluebird Guest House.

I have to disagree with Homey Haven. I stayed in the Beverly Cleary room and even with earplugs it was very difficult to sleep because of the street noise. They should really put double glazed windows in that room. If you are a heavy sleeper, it would be perfect; otherwise maybe try a room not facing the road. The room is lovely, though, spacious and nicely decorated, with a bright and comfortable bathroom and the breakfast is generous and coffee good.

We've stayed here numerous times, usually upstairs, since the Gabriel Marquez room is under the stairs and sleep is nearly impossible there. The Beverly Cleary, upstairs in the front, has it's own bath, a very comfy queen bed, and is quieter than you'd think, right on Division St. The price is right if you want to be in SE Portland, near the good food and funky shops, but not too far from downtown. Good coffee and breakfast pastries are included, plus a paper on the doorstep and a common area to read it in and lounge around. We go there once a year or so.

Could it be from being over caffeinated? On the plus side, this guesthouse is well located and my field trip today is a walk to the original stumptown coffee. Unfortunately for me, my room is sandwiched between a sitting area and the kitchen (Marquez room). I could hear every word of conversations and early birds getting breakfast woke me up before my normal waking at 7AM. Too bad because the mattress was very comfortable. The guesthouse seems very clean however there is an odor that greets you when you come in (mildew/mold)?
The kitchen is well stocked with fruit, cereals, coffee, tea, baked goods and more. I am fine with fixing my own too. A computer is available to use.
Definitely a mixed experience. I might return and stay in an upstairs room.

This is such a well kept b&b. The owner is super friendly and there is breakfast laid out every morning. We stayed in a room with a bathroom in it, which was nice. It was a quite stay in se Portland. Some great places are in walking distance to eat drink or snack upon. I felt very safe and relaxed staying at location. Wonderful stay!
