Ace hotels always seem to feel like a home away from home, with better Art. Everything you can want is within walking distance (on a nice day) or a short bike or cab ride away. Starting close with Stumptown and the in-house restaurant (Clyde Common), as well as the deli down the street (Kenny & Zuke's) or any of the amazing restaurants a stone's throw (read: a block) in any direction. The only thing lacking in this area is a good dive bar, which adventurous travellers can find if they venture down any of the nearby alleyways.
The rooms are always comfy (bathrooms included, with their heavenly malin+goetz soaps & shampoos) and the front desk staff have always had fantastic restaurant suggestions, guiding us to some of the best meals we've had in Portland. If you prefer to go the food truck route, the common area & mezzanine are great places to relax and grab a bite before heading out to shop.

Room Tip: Opt for a back room, as the street out front can get a bit noisy. Even the art on adjacent buildings makes up for less of a view from the giant windows.

I love everything about this hotel.
With good cafe at the lounge, and the restaurants near by for the brunch or fancy dinner.
Each room has art work done by different artists so every visit we had different rooms.
Can't wait to go the on in New York now....

It's basically a hipster hostel that's too cool for itself. It's a great location in the heart of downtown Portland, and the restaurant/bar downstairs is quite nice (though a bit pricey), and having a Sumptown coffee shop downstairs is nice too, but the room was extremely small, the heater made the room unbearably dry during the night, and the bed was rock hard and stiff as a board. We also had to pay quite a bit extra for parking which was in a sketchy open-air parking lot 2 blocks from the hotel.

We originally stayed at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, so when we were planning a weekend getaway to Portland, it was our first choice. First, as many reviews have mentioned, it is close to everything. We found Portland to be a very manageable city. The property itself boasts a large communal and comfortable lobby. The Ace Portland lobby is also adjacent to a Stumptown Roaster coffee shop, so it is very convenient to grab a cup of coffee, your tablet and relax in the lobby where great music is typically playing. The lobby also has a photo booth and offers easy access to Clyde Commons, a restaurant and bar on the opposite side of the lobby. Our room was the Superior Deluxe Back and it was large and long. It had both a comfortable rustic feel yet with industrial and modern accents. One of the accents to which we have become accustomed is the turntable and small record collection. The window covers were heavy sliding panels, as was the door to the bathroom. There were two worn, but super comfortable leather chairs, and two twin beds tucked into nooks at the opposite end of the room. The room actually sleeps four. Ace Hotels are intuitive and we haven't required much in the way of service, but the staff was friendly and helpful. We happened to be interested in the food scene in Portland and this hotel is walking distance to Tasty n Alder, Little Bird, Sizzle Pie, Lardo and a host of food trucks. Highly recommended hotel.

If you're visiting Portland, this is the kind of place you want to stay at. As a midwesterner, I like things that are intuitive and functional. This hotel had everything we needed. It had a communal breakfast room, cafe attached, a great lobby, plus you're in the middle of everything you need. You can walk just about anywhere you need to go (bars/stores/restaurants). The staff was very professional. The room was tiny but very functional. If you're the kind of person that spends time in their hotel room, I'm not sure it would work for you, but for a place to crash while you experience Portland, it was exactly what we were looking for.
