“One of our favorites!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

We don't get to Portland very often, but when we do, Wong's King is on our lunch plan.

Between 11 and about 2, the Dim Sum carts are freshest and the place is usually pretty full. If you go on a weekend, there is always a LONG wait for a seat.

We have found that the offerings here range from the simple Shumai for the "Gringo" palate to the more exotic "Build a Farm" parts ... chicken feet, beef tendon, pork stomach, beef tripe, etc. for those searching for the more traditional flavors.

The oddest sounding stuff tastes the best and we loved it all.

We did get something new this visit ... steamed snow pea TOPS. While we thought we were just ordering the snow peas (communication can be a little tough for those of us that don't speak Chinese), the plate they brought out were vines and leaves. Turns out it was good! Who knew!

This place is always clean and the service is very good. Our water glasses were never left empty and we just had to tip up the top of our tea pot to get it refilled.

Good atmosphere, great prices, excellent Dim Sum ... who could ask for more!!

“Dim Sum Yum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2014

First time for dim sum most of it was delicious. Pot stickers were very cold and the wrappers way too thick. We ordered Orange Chicken it was tender and delicious, Also Yakisoba noodles had that nice seasoned wok flavor. Absolutely loved loved loved the salted pepper calamari cooked to perfection. Will go back for dinner for sure the menu looked fabulous.

“Extremely poor dim sum and service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2014 via mobile

Last Saturday afternoon my wife and I stopped in for a late lunch. I had a craving for dim sum and my wife would try a few of the offerings, but wanted to order off the lunch menu. We were seated immediately, but had to wait for at least 15 minutes before anyone approached our table. I tried to order several items from the dim sum menu, but after writing down 2 items the server just walked away, not letting me finish my order, taking my wife's order or letting us order beverages.

When the 2 dim sum items arrived, my wife gave her lunch order and I requested a couple more dim sum items. The baked pork bun was delicious, but only luke warm, pot stickers were ice cold with other steamed dumplings cold, shriveled and stuck to the steamer bottom to the extent that they were un removable without damage. We again were unable to order beverages before the server departed. We finally had to flag down another server to order a couple of beers.

After waiting another 15 minutes for my wife's lunch that never arrived, we got up, paid our bill and left disgusted.

Not only was the dim sum extremely poor, but the service was by far the worst that I have ever experienced in a Portland restaurant.

“Reheated leftovers.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 January 2014

Ate here two times in the last month. Had appointments in Portland, so took in what used to be a superb restaurant. We made the mistake of showing up too early both times as they open at 10:00 am, and we arrived before 11:00 am. Food was plentiful for standard items, but generally cold and much of the rice flour items such as rice noodle and haugau were wrinkled and obviously not fresh. Ginger chicken was sold off the steamed bun cart and normally this is a hot dish. It was cold. On our latest visit, pork buns had very little pork and not hot,and the lotus leaf rice was not hot...which prompted me to write this review. My advice for travelers is to eat here, but after 12 or 12:30. You used to have to wait over an hour to get a table here....not anymore. But if you do have to wait an hour, chances are the restaurant made improvements which is generally attributed to a change in cooks (chefs) as they hop around these dim sum places like mexican jumping beans on a hot skillet.
