“Cute Neighborhood Sandwich Cafe, Yes Again”
Reviewed 30 June 2013

I met business associates who were familiar with the area for lunch at Costello's. It's very Portland.

Cute, very casual, rustic coffee shop with great sandwiches, salads, fresh baked cookies and baked goods. Half of a warm sandwich and soup was perfect for this coolish summer day. I had a latte after lunch and it was very good too.

I lived in Portland for 10 years and moved away 12 years ago. Feels very local and I would return again. Good food too.

“A Quintessentially Portland Experience”
Reviewed 12 April 2013

I know of no place in the city that make me feel more like a Portlandian by just walking in the door than this charming coffeehouse/cafe. The ambiance is funky Portland with mismatched furniture, dark paneling, and every other person with a laptop open in front of them... and quite a number o them sitting at tables with people they've never met (the laidback family atmosphere and back-to-back laptops kinda encourage that).

The coffee is quite good but not the only draw. The menu is very European and surprisingly sophisticated with a variety of crepes, quiches, sandwiches and specials at breakfast and an equally imaginative assortment of hot & cold sandwiches, soups, and salads for lunch. Service, as has been pointed out in another review can seem a little leisurely, but it's always friendly and sincere... a trade off I'm happy to live with.

As an added bonus, there is a scattering of screens around the room so that if you forgot to bring your laptop or a book, you can always watch the amazing travel photos and videos from around the world as you enjoy the food.

I haven't eaten here, but I've stopped in for coffee as I work just down the road. The coffee is good, but the service, even for a popular joint, is quite slow. I was only buying three coffees, and I was in line for almost 20 minutes...

“Ideal for breakfast”
Reviewed 3 November 2012

Great coffee and food. But the atmosphere is tops. Truly wonderful environment. Family run. Homemade scones. Great people who run it and interesting people attracted as a result. It's just the kind of place you want to become a regular at.

“Cosmopolitan and 'hoody all at once”
Reviewed 22 October 2012

I especially like the pumpkin pie, but I also like the soups and sandwiches. You can watch travel scenes on the big screens, also. This is a favorite of neighbors and locals. I have found the service to be kind and cheery.
