“Best up and coming motel in Portland with great transportation access!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2012

Have been spending a few days per week in Portland for several months and have pretty much been to all of the reasonably priced chain hotels around the airport with decent access to transportation (Freeways, Trimet etc.) and now that I have stayed here, I will not be switching.

This is my second multiple day stay and do not mind the "excuse our dust" sign as they are in the process of totally redoing the interiors of all the rooms. They doing so in a very respectful manner. The future for a reasonably priced, nicely appointed, comfortable place to reside while in Portland is bright!

If you want to head into downtown Portland to the many farmers markets, food carts or even head out to Beaverton, the TriMet station and major metro station are right across the street. And its a whopping $2 to have a personalized excursion and meet the locals.

The staff are really decent folks, special kudos go out to Marilyn at the front desk and the housekeeping staff. Marilyn is just a very decent person who is very knowledgeable and does her job very well. Kind of nice to run into hotel staff during your day and being greeted pleasantly. The housekeeping staff do a great job of cleaning your room while not disturbing the space you have carved out - if only for a couple of nights.

For my Canadian facebook friends, this is a super place if you're visiting Portland. reasonably priced, 34 or so rooms total, looks like a 5 star from the street (NE Sandy Blvd).

3 stories, smoking on the third floor.

A couple of secrets about this place: It's a 5 minute walk (the closest of any hotel in the vicinity, all of which are higher priced) from the light rail MAX stop at Parkrose Station which runs from PDX, 4 stops away (15 minutes or less). The same light rail ($5.00 all day pass) takes you any where you want to go in Greater Portland. YOU DO NOT NEED A CAR OR CAB WITH THIS PLACE, but even if you do have one (It's not exactly on I-5, but you can easily get there with a GPS) (9520 NE Sandy Bl) you can park it there for free and go anywhere you want in Greater Portland on the light rail.

They have Jacuzzis in two of their rooms; they are pet-friendly, so your Quebec poodle can use the Jacuzzi if you have one of those rooms, plus they have a free hotel-wide jacuzzi and sauna for all of their other guests. They have a smaltzy continental breakfast (with excellent bagels and raisin muffins) which they start at 6 a.m. sharp, and shut down at 9 a.m. sharp.

They insist on super cleanly rooms, no bedbugs, no mice, no dirt, hard to find these days even in $1,000 a night rooms in the big cities I've stayed in.

But their real secret is Cindy New (her real name, and she is REAL person, and she is no relative of mine), their manager, a veteran from other Econo Lodges, who supervises friendly, down-home, but tight ship. This lady could serve as a head concierge in NYC with the advice she can give you about Portland as a traveler.

I would like to compliment the helpful staff at the Econo Lodge Port of Portland Oregon.

They are friendly and always tend to my requests and needs.

The accommodations are clean and comfortable.

They have an elevator serving the 2nd and 3rd floor a real convenience when carrying luggage.

They offer a large selection of Direct TV channels and a good wifi signal.

They have the best competitive pricing in the area and are located close to the airport.

Econo Lodge is my home away from home!

Room Tip: Get the first floor and you can park in front of your room.

The room was good size and the location is fine. But there appears to be some transients living there. They had a car full of all their possessions and pay for their room daily with cash.
I was given a non-smoking room that smelled of smoke. I just assumed the last guest had smoked in it and that I would be able to air it out. But that night the people below me smoked all night in their non-smoking room and my room filled up with smoke.

Stayed here for 1 night at the end of our Portland trip. Chose the hotel because we needed something cheap and close to public transportation. It's good to have reasonable expectations for cheap hotels. This place is directly across the street from the train stop and close to the airport. It's also a cheap hotel, which explains the smoky/dingy smell of the room, the relatively rude front desk worker and the shabby building. But that's what we paid for, I guess. Next time, I'd probably pay another 10 bucks to upgrade to something in the area that feels ok to walk barefoot in, but like I said, the location is just what we needed on a budget. Could have been much worse.
