“Tiny rooms-ok for the price”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2011

The rooms are absolutely tiny--the size of NYC rooms. Bathrooms equally as small. It's an old motel converted and remodeled to a young hipster joint. We didn't go to the Doug Fir lounge but it looked cool. The plus was parking was only $8 a day where other hotels were charging as much as $25 a day.

Overall, my opinion of this place is it's a Motel 6 in trendy clothes. The rooms are minimal - not even a closet in the room. The beds are not that comfortable and sit off the flooron a raised platform. The walls are thin so you can hear everything going on around you. We were in a room almost as far away as you can get from the lounge & we could still hear the noise. The room has a large window air conditioner that runs loud and only intermittently. The location of the hotel isn't bad if you plan to spend a lot of time downtown. The upside is that this hotel is cheap & they allow you to bring your pets but there are no amenities here - not even coffee in your room, you have to go to the lobby to get it.

Juniper Hotel is a former motel that was very nicely converted into a fashionable place with design all around. It is situated just a few minutes off the city center, and staff is very helpful. Price/value is good (no complimentary continental breakfast, though). Our only qualm: room windows cannot be opened and at least our AC (room 236) was quite noisy.

Arrogant and not helpful staff.

Reservation of an parking lot without obligation for the hotel. "Park it on the street, we will give the money back".

No expresso possible for Breakfast. Yoghurt was off...
Neighborhood not so lively as expected. One a few shops and restaurants.

The night as we stayed there was a concert. Zero disturbance, nice crowd, concert hall is damped.

Loved this retro styled hotel/motel. Felt like I went back in time a bit. All the amenities were great. Definitely be back!

My family and I stayed here on our final night in Oregon after a week on the coast. I booked the room personally while spending a day in Portland before our trip. The staff were very helpful, we got a great rate on a "quiet room" on the "chill side" as far as you could get from the lounge, and indeed the lounge noise was not a problem on the Thursday night we stayed.

Unfortunately, It was impossible to get a good night's sleep due to the constant hum of what we think was the washing machine two floors beneath our room (Rm. 224) and a parade of garbage trucks emptying bins from about 2:30 - 4:00 in the morning. As others have reported, you could also hear water being used in nearby rooms. The problem is that the infrastructure of the hotel is more Motel 6 than Holiday Inn. The rooms are small, and walls are very thin. We all enjoyed the cool interior design and the overall feel of the place. The staff were very nice. I mentioned the noise upon check out and they were apologetic and comped us a $3 water we drank. But I think they either knew or should have known about the noise problem in this room and not used it to fulfill my request for a quite room so that we could get a good night's sleep before our morning flig

But I can't recommend it as a place to sleep, and despite the good rate decided not to stay here again when I return on a business trip planned for next year.

This is definitley a party hotel! For starters, it has an adult shop, tattoo parlour and a nightclub on site. It is young and trendy and everyone is there to party. Make friends with your neighbours and have fun. A short walk to Portland city centre
