Portland, OR is the Northwest's secret treasure. The greenest city in the nation, Portland has over 2 million trees within the city limts. One quarter of the city is under canopy. And then there's the bike friendly thing. And the free downtown streetcar. The city is bounded by two rivers, the Columbia and the Willamette. The waterfront park & boardwalk are wonderful. The restaurants are top-tier. Personal favorites include: Andina, Merriweather's, Paley's Place, Le Pigeon, Southpark Seafood Grill & Wine Bar, Persia House; and for Sushi: Murata on Market. City attractions include a fantastic downtown Chinese Garden, located of course, in Chinatown; the world famous Japanese & Rose gardens at Washington Park; and, Voodoo Doughnuts - home of the planet's most unusual & desirable doughnuts. Pioneer Square on Broadway between Yamhill & Morrison is the core of the city, surrounded by shops, food & coffee. Lots of coffee. Daytrips include several spectacular waterfalls and a couple of world-class SPAs in the Columbia Gorge; as well as the charming, historic riverside fishing village of Astoria. Best of all, travelers can take the "Tri-Max" trains directly from the international airport to the downtown.
