This is truly one of the great wonders. There are lots of hiking trails, camping, etc. for people who don't climb up the rocks. It is breathtaking.

You can hike down to the river or up on the rock formations. Lots of climbing routes too! Someone was there planning a wedding the day we visited.

You will find this state park north of Bend , thinking about 20 miles, on Hwy 97; fee required, a great hike and scenery along the river path of the valley and up Misery Ridge with views looking out west to the mountains; pastures and vineyards. River path is an easy walk at one level but climbing Misery Ridge is not for the weak or anyone afraid of heights. This area is very popular with climbers and the majority who visit the park. You'll see climbers on Monkey Face on the back side. I think it is only 2 1/2 miles RT ; about 1 1/2 hrs of enjoyment!

What a beautiful park and lots of great trails from easy to moderate. Saw several folks rock climbing and even someone walking a tight rope across two peaks. Very enjoyable and lots of opportunities for some great picture taking. We are from Colorado Springs and it reminded us a lot of the Garden of the Gods Park.

Smith Rock is great, whether you want to spend 15 minutes there, sitting in your car looking at the beauty, or if you want to spend all day hiking! The park is fairly safe, there obviously are steep cliffs and loose gravel, and a river at the bottom, but there are fences and wide trails. Great Photo Ops any time of year!!!
