“Great place to relax with family or alone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2011

I have taken my niece and nephews to the Ocean Rogue Inn for four summers in a row. They love it there, because there is a playground and the beach. It doesn't hurt that the proprietors have Tootsie Pops at the front desk either! As others have noted, this is not a sparkling, freshly renovated location. But I actually prefer it with the kids. It feels more like home, and they feel more comfortable. I asked them after the second summer if they wanted to try somewhere new with more amenities, but they unanimously voted for the Ocean Rogue.

I've come here separately without the kids, and enjoy the quiet, the beautiful views, and the friendly hospitality.

Room Tip: Unit 7 has three bedrooms and does not open directly onto the beach, as it's upstairs. This is a...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2011

I have to preface - I work in the Event Planning Industry. I have stayed at 4/5 star hotels in both Seattle and Portland. While I do enjoy these places, the Rogue Inn is our very first choice when traveling to the Oregon Coast - even over the fancy smanshy hotels in Cannon Beach.

With that being said.........

We are headed to the Rogue Inn for a little weekend get-a-way. I wanted to comment on Trip Advisor about them before this, because I know a lot of people are making travel plans for summer. This is the best place to stay. We come once a year now with our two dogs(which they allow and their pet fees aren't ridiculously outrageous!). It is just a skip to the beach. They have fire pits, BBQ's, volleyball, horse shoes, etc behind all of the units. I do have to compliment them on their policies(as I see some have complained below about them). Their cancellation policy is a strict one - but they are family owned and I think it is perfectly fair(as long as you actually read their policies which are all over the web site before booking - then you'll be fine!). What I really love is their no party policy. I am in my late twenties but am an old soul. When we go to the beach, it is an escape from the busy life we lead at home - it's so nice to have it quiet!

We normally stay in the smallest unit - I believe it is Unit B - the one for 69 a night. We have upgraded this time to the one bedroom with the kitchenette. We are so excited to explore the Rogue Inn a little more. I love how they have DVD players in the room(and DVD's to borrow(complimentary!)), which give us the ability to lazy around at night or when we wake up in the morning. We also make a trip every time we stay, since it is only at 15-20 minute drive, to Tillamook to go to Blue Haron and the cheese factory.

This Inn doesn't have top of the line beds or furniture. But, if you're on a budget(or even if you're not!) and willing to sleep in a comfy bed and enjoy the beach for a few days - this is the spot to go. Its perfectly clean, it does not smell like dirt has been masked under air freshener, and it is an all around great place to stay. It has quite the charm to it.

I am giving this an" average" rating because the inn keeper was so accommodating and the place didn't smell. I'm a picky person about smells and dirt. But, our small unit--and the one we were shown first--were equally in need of updating. You know that when particle board furniture has a blistered surface, it's time to go back to the local Salvation Army and pick up a few newer pieces. They do take dogs, who have clearly had good times laying on the love seat in our unit.

But, the big attraction is that this place in on the beach. The water was about 1/4 mile from the back door. The beach was deep and expansive. Were we to have stayed longer than a night, that alone would have been a reason to stay. But, what with a dog with hip problems, long walks on the beach were not on our agenda.

This place also wasn't cheap. One night was $130 for a double bed and small shower.

The inn keeper recommended the restaurant down the street, Pirate's Cove, for dinner and the fish was ultra fresh! But, you can also cook something with the fully equipped kitchens in the units.

We returned from our first stay @ Ocean Rogue yesterday and are already planning another visit. No funky smells or mold, friendly owners, play structure & sand for the kids to play, beautiful view, BBQs & fire pit, quick walk to the beach, movies to borrow, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen...we're hooked!
The only improvement we can think of is putting a set of bunk beds in one of the bedrooms for the kids.

We booked the stand-alone effiiciency cottage (#2) for our first night in Oregon. What a great surprise. The weather was unusually cool for late May so we were extra thankful for the fireplace in the living room. The view from the picture window of Twin Rocks was fantastic. We really wished we could have stayed more than one night. There's a huge back yard with volleyball net, picnic tables, and grills right on the ocean. The Ocean Rogue is definately on our list for when we return to Oregon.

It's not fancy but comfortable. We have been going since it was the Ocean Locamotion. A much better improvement since then. The owners have always been very friendly and helpful. So sweet, they remember us every year. For the view you get, the ammenities in the kitchen, BBQ's, picnic table, volleyball court and play structure with quick access to the beach, it can't be beat! The kids have had a great time every year and the town has grown since we've started going so there are a few more things to do. Love it.

Predatory booking practices! No matter what kind of family emergency and no matter how long a notice you give them, they'll charge you FOR YOUR FULL STAY even if you didn't arrive! BEWARE! Read their cancellation policy and go stay somewhere they aren't trying to rip you off!

  • Liked — Nice quaint motel with rotten new owners who want to rip you off for every dollar.
  • Disliked — Bad faith new owners.
