Kind of an old little hotel, rooms are pretty small, the rooms on the ocean side are over priced and the other rooms look into a parking lot. Bed was okay but the priced was decent and it was only one night. Wouldn't recommend for more than that.

We met our friends in Seattle and stayed there for a few days before venturing to Oregon We stayed there for a weekend. The owner was very polite and was nice enough to upgrade our room for minimal cost to an ocean view room. Everything is within walking distance. Our overall experience was perfect. There is a small market not far away if you have a kitchen area. Great place. I hope I get a chance to return very soon.

After arriving and checking in we found out we had booked a non-view room through Hotels.com. The owner was gracious enough to point it out and gave us the option for a better room for a pretty significant up charge (33%) more. I felt like it was a bait and switch. Fortunately the room he selected had a great location on the second floor. We watched the huge waves pound the beach from the balcony and really enjoyed the expansive view north and south. Don't expect anything fancy in the room itself. It's well kept up if you don't mind dated amenities and decorations. I thought the bed was comfortable but the wife complained it was too hard for her. The fireplace is a nice touch and they provide one three hour Eco-friendly log to burn (you pay $5 if you want another one.) Overall I think it's pretty average but adequate for what we were looking for in a short beach trip. Most likely we will try out another motel the next time out there.

Room Tip: Second floor for the best view!

Room was great, large, clean and recently redecorated with an excellent location so close to the waves and a nice balcony. An efficient mini kitchen and fireplace were nice. Original artwork, flat screen tv and double shower heads was a nice touch. The sheets and towels were nice and bed was comfortable. Checkout at 11:30 instead of 11:00 so you don't have to rush. They provide towels and blankets to go on the beach if you want, And they have hypoallergenic feather pillows (?!) But on the down side the wall heater was old and noisy and drowned out the sound of the ocean when it was on. The exterior grounds of the hotel of the hotel could use some sprucing up and you only get one pack of coffee enough for 2 cups and no decaf. Also the shower heads could use some scrubbing. Overall this hotel room was much nicer than I expected and the web site does not do it justice.

Room Tip: The view is awesome from the top floor but from the bottom you can walk directly on to the beach and...

I've been going to Tradewinds for many years. I went as a teenager when the old building was still standing. The "new" trade winds maintains the unique charm and character of Rockaway. The room are attractive, clean and comfortable. the motel is located on the best part of the beach with walk-out right onto the sand from the 1st floor. The walk into town is just a few minutes,so everything you could want is very close at hand. The staff is friendly and helpful. We always look forward to going back to the tradewinds where we feel at home.

Room Tip: Talk to staff and look at web-site

This motel is right on the beach, open your patio door, walk down a few steps, and you're in the sand. The room is a little dated but it was clean with a great shower and nice towels. My only real complaint was that the bed wasn't quite as comfortable as I would have liked, although that didn't stop me from getting a good night's sleep. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful, suggesting places to eat and showing genuine interest in just chatting with guests. If we're in the area again we will definitely use the Tradewinds.

Ok, I must admit, we were on a business trip and got a wonderful rate. Had I paid rack, I may have given 4 stars.

Yes, this is an older property, maybe 70's? But the carpet was new, the linens and oddly, the bathtub and toilet seemed very new. Sure, the furniture was stock 90's faux oak Formica. But with beautiful clean carpet and bedspreads, I could live with it. Big flat screen TV, and a woodburning fireplace complete with our first log! Others could be purchased from the office.

It appears 2/3 of the rooms have an Ocean Front. Our room was a large room with a queen bed, a dining table, 4 chairs and complete apartment sized kitchen (oven, 4 burners, micro, mini fridge, full sink) with dishes and pans. The configuration is such that 2 ocean front rooms can connect and then one of those rooms can connect to a small non ocean front room & bath. So you can reserve a single, 2 rooms, or even 3 rooms that connect for your giant family needs.

Rockaway is a simple town, and everything but one restaurant and a bar were closed when I set out around 6pm. And the mini market was open further down the road. The hotel is Ocean Front with a small deck and 2 chairs, totally non smoking (you need to go to the street or beach to smoke, yay), and while it has no pool or recroom, the view of the ocean provides entertainment for hours.

Room Tip: The main level is up a few steps or via a handicapped ramp. Level 2 is not Handicapped accessable.
