“The perfect retreat”
Reviewed 6 September 2011

I loved my visit to the C.H. Bailey House. It was the perfect country retreat that I was hoping for. the setting is gorgeous with golden hillsides, fields and cows grazing in the distance. It was so peaceful and relaxing to be there as a break from a long drive. The house is charming, tasteful and comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean and organized with every comfort in mind. The thougthful hostess has a keen attention to all the little details that make guests comfortable and welcome. I was greated with the option of chilled wine, sodas and excellent shortbread cookies. There were dinner suggestions or the option to settle in in the garden on adirondack chairs, in the lovely patio garden or on the porch swing on the the front porch.

The room was spacious, with all the modern amenities including a flat screen tv and private bathroom and a sitting room. the decor was in impecable taste, interesting with lots orf character an not fussy and overdone as some BB's can be. The country is so quiet and peaceful and the bed so comfortable that it would be impossible to not get a good nights sleep.

In the morning coffee was served with biscotti an hour before breakfast. Breakfast location choices abound from a tasteful dining room or outrdoors on the front porch or in the garden. I enjoyed fresh blackberries with yougurt, fresh bread with home grown heirloom tomatos, proscuitto and poarch eggs and fresh baked lemon muffins. Excellent, decadent and just right.

I highly reccomend the C. H. Bailey House and am planning my a return visit with my partner soon.

We loved our stay at C.H. Bailey House. It is a beautiful property with wonderful hosts. We stopped on our way north to Washington. Jay and Sherry had stepped out when we got there but they left us our key and very clear instructions. So appreciated the sheet of restaurant recommendations and easy to follow directions in to town. Had a nice soak in the hot tub and did some star watching. Breakfast was so delicious. There are so many places to eat on the property that we had our own, little private breakfast spot in the garden. Organic berries, so many choices of juice and tea, wonderful coffee and a fabulous 'corn maiden' with eggs and spinach right from the property. The dogs are sweet and friendly. We left feeling so happy and vowing to stay again.

On a wine tasting trip in Oregon, we experienced the wonderful hospitality of the C.H. Bailer House. Perfectly decorated without all the "kitsch" of so many B&B's. Large bathroom, comfortable bed, quiet house. Thoughtful touches everywhere: a game table in the living room and a stash of board games; soft drinks and popsicles in the fridge outside our room; coffee/tea/chocolate available all day; red and white wine in the afternoon. Best of all: Breakfast, served outside, either on the porch or in the garden arbor (or dining room). Local fruit and a real entree each morning, not just a sticky bun! Blueberry buttermilk pancakes with organic scrambled eggs one morning, sausage and poached eggs the second. Honest restaurant and winery recommendations from Sherry, too. Out in the country - about a 7 mile drive to Roseburg, but note that the wineries are not close together in the Umpqua Valley, either. A very enjoyable stay, and we'll come back.

My wife and I actually owned this home before Sherry and Jay. What they have done with the home and property is incredible. Very comfortable rooms and beautiful gardens, The surrounding area is so beautiful and peaceful. Sherry and Jay were the best hosts. All the breakfasts were beautiful and filling. Jays keg of a Oregon IPA hit the spot after a day of hiking along the North Umpqua. The memories truly came rushing back. We're looking forward to our next visit when we'll bring the kids.

Thank you for your review. We're glad you like the changes as we know it can be awkward returning to a home you once owned. We look forward to seeing you both again and meeting your family. Cheers!

My wife (Leslie) and I spent an evening at the C.H. Bailey House on our way to Ashland, Oregon—we know wish we would have spent an extra day at C.H. Bailey because of the great time we had. We arrived in the late afternoon and Sherry and Jay where there to greet us and tour their B&B. They offered us wine and a cold beer on draft. The beer was an IPA from Lompoc Brewery and it was delicious. Jay varies up the beer but based on his selection of the Lompoc IPA he knows how to pick a good beer.
Rather than going into town for dinner my wife and I chose to have a light dinner of cheese, bread and fruit sitting on their beautiful porch, sipping a glass of wine, overlooking their meticulously landscaped property and the rolling hills across the street. After dinner we sat in the hot tub and relaxed even more. Relaxation doesn’t come easy to me—but the environment and our hosts made it easy.
Our room was spacious and welcoming, and the king-size bed was more comfortable than the one we have at home. Sherry delivers a pot of coffee outside your door about an hour before scheduled breakfast. Leslie and I sat in our room drinking coffee and reading until our delicious gourmet breakfast was served promptly at our requested time.
I highly recommend C.H. Bailey house and its outstanding hosts Sherry and Jay.

Do yourself a favor, drive a few miles of the freeway and stay at this wonderful place. We were on a long road trip and were very sad to have to leave after just one night. The owners couldn't be more welcoming, the house is lovely and comfortable and the lush grounds were a godsend for us and our road-weary dog.
