5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013

Having traveled throughout the USA and Europe, I have to say, this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. We stayed for two nights in December of 2013. The top customer service started with a phone call.... My husband and I were going to be arriving in the evening, and hence called earlier in the day to alert them of our late arrival. They answered the phone quickly and had a professional yet friendly tone. Upon actual arrival, the parking lot was well lit, clean, and wide open (no scary dark areas).

The two employees at the front desk were cleanly and professionally dressed. They both greeted us with a smile and a welcome. They had taken note of our 4th floor room request we had made on our online reservation, (which in our experience, most hotels we have stayed at don't ever bother looking at), and without us even mentioning it, were able to accommodate our request. They also took the time to point out the 'snack shop' the breakfast area, workout room, and other guest amenities.
The entry, lobby, elevators, hallways, and ice/vending machine areas were exceptionally clean and well taken care of, and well lit. There was a slight 'clean' scent in the hallways and room like that of an air freshener....not overpowering, just pleasant.
The room was beautiful and thoughtfully laid out. The main door does not open up directly into the bedroom area, but instead one enters into a small kitchenette, that consists of a sink/counter, microwave, mini refrigerator, and coffee pot....all of it clean, with an assortment of coffees, packaged paper coffee cups with cup sleeves.
There is a sitting area with over-sized couch (that is also a foldout bed), and foot rest.
Dividing the room is a large double sided desk with an ergonomic office chair. The flat screen TV is wall mounted and pulls out /swivels/tilts to face either the sitting area or the bedroom area.
The room (carpet, furnishings, walls, desk, counters, etc.) were also exceptionally clean.
The mattress on the bed was firm and very high up off the floor (I hate it when beds are so low to the ground that blankets touch the hotel floor. Ick). The hotel left a note on the headboard letting us know that even the duvet cover is washed fresh for each guest (which not all hotels do unfortunately). The pillows were however the most uncomfortable I have ever slept with. Each side of the bed gets two pillows: one with a zippered cover under the pillowcase, which feels like a feather pillow, and the other feels like a fiber-filled pillow with a terrycloth like cover under the pillowcase. The feather pillow was a brick: heavy yet would go very flat once you lay your head on it, and hard for it wasn't very 'squishable'. The other pillow we didn't even bother trying because of the terrycloth-like cover: apparently the inside covers don't get washed often because the terrycloth was covered in hairs, lint, and thread bits, which is not surprising as terrycloth has a way of latching on to such. The headboard was for the most part clean, but there were a few questionable filmy smudges that freaked me out (I just kept telling myself that it was dried drool, and tried not to think about it).
The curtains don't seem to overlap so there was an annoying part that allowed bright parking lot lights into the room. This is not unusual, in fact we usually bring along clips to close up hotel curtains, having forgot them on this trip, we simply placed a chair up against the curtains to hold them closed all the way.
The bathroom was very, very clean, from the ceiling down to the corners of the floor; even around the base of the toilet and tub. Speak of the tub, that too was very clean. The shower head was adjustable, and very high up which is great for really tall people. The shower curtain was also clean and looked to be freshly washed (although I have no idea if they wash those for each guest). The assortment of toiletries were a pleasant bonus!....there was even a packaged shower cap, shoe mitt, and vanity set, mouthwash, body wash, extra cotton balls, and a fabulous cucumber smelling face soap, along with all the other typical toiletries of bath soap, shampoo/conditioner.
Towels were large, fluffy, and clean.
Closet was large and had a good amount of wood hangers.
The heater/air unit turned on in the night and was probably the quietest running unit I have ever heard.

The hotel looks to be located in a business park, with other office buildings around, so it is very quiet at night. The freeway is not very close but it can be seen from the hotel, so the sounds of traffic going by was not overly noticeable or disruptive.
For a bit of exercise we used the stairwell a number of times instead of the elevator. The stairwells were wide, very well lit, clean, had heaters, and even a call button for assistance at each door.
The breakfast was also quite a pleasant surprise. Breakfast started at 6:00 AM, and both mornings we arrived around 6:30. The room where the food is located is large, and well laid out. The counters, serving utensils, food dispensers, even the trash receptacles, were all very clean and orderly (spoon rests under utensils, etc.). Each type of food had it's designated area.
Saturday was: omelettes (ham and plain), sausage, potatoes, oatmeal w/fixings (brown sugar, nuts, raisins), waffles w/fixings, toast, muffins, bagels (plain and blueberry), assortment of doughnuts, raisin bread, hard-boiled eggs, 3 cold cereals, two milk choices, assortment of yogurts, fresh fruit, juices, coffee, hot chocolate, and complimentary box of breath mints.
Sunday was: almost the same as Saturday except it was scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy instead of the omelette/sausage/potatoes.
The lady in charge of the breakfast was very welcoming and friendly, making light conversation, asking about us, our trip, seeing if we needed anything, and was very helpful in answering some questions we had about certain food ingredients. At one point she was bringing out fresh doughnuts and we observed her using a clean glove to transfer them to the breakfast area. The attention to detail and cleanliness was impressive.
The dining room was large, and very comfy with sofas, chairs, and high bar stools, well lit, and very clean as well.
We make a trip to the Salem and Woodburn areas a few times per year, and now will always try to get a reservation at this hotel first!

This is my 2nd review for this hotel; have no clue what happened to my first one. I definitely recommend this hotel (already recommended it to friends) if you are going to Salem or traveling the I-5 corridor. It easily accessible to I-5 but it's proximity to the freeway is not close so that you do not hear freeway noise and it is not a real busy street that it is on so you do not have traffic noise. The front desk and staff are very helpful and the breakfast was good and had many items.

We started with an extremely pleasant young lady and ended with an excellent breakfast and a smiling cook. I assume it was the manager who came and chatted with us during breakfast. We'll stay there again and recommend to friends if it comes up.

I arrived with lots of questions about my IPhone and Terra answered them all! Really, her help was above and beyond anything I could have hoped for or expected. She really saved me.

And the hotel is very nice--I especially liked the decor both in the main lounge and in the suite I enjoyed as an upgrade. These rooms did not scream "hotel;" instead they whispered "comfort." The bed was very comfortable and the layout of the suite was very convenient. The breakfast was excellent w/lots of choices. There was also a dinner provided the night I was there which is very convenient for travelers too weary to go out. I'll stay here again if I need an overnight in Salem and will check out Hampton Inns in other locations as well.
