“Beautiful House and Gardens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2012

Deepwood is an incredible 1894 Queen Anne Victorian mansion. Full disclosure I volunteer as a tour guide at this lovely home. The house designed by local architect William C. Knighton is filled with stained glass windows designed by the Povey Brothers. Viewing the stained glass alone is worth the price of admission. Tip: Check the web site for tour hours. During summer tours are in the morning. Great way to start your morning exploring Salem. The gardens surrounding Deepwood were designed by Lord & Schryver. Tip:Tours take place on the hour if you arrive early take a stroll through the gardens. Restrooms are located by the greenhouse next to the parking lot.

“A top Salem historic site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2011

The Deepwood Estate is well worth its modest admission fee. This stately home, built in the late 19th century, is filled with hundreds of pieces of historic furniture and memorabilia. The gardens are a bonus attraction, especially in warmer weather.

Be sure to visit the nearby Bush House Museum on the same day in order to compare and contrast these two mansions.

Plan on spending approximately 1-2 hours at each of these two historic homes.

“A relaxing pleasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2009

I went on a tour of the estate Saturday afternoon at 3pm. The tour guide was great; friendly and smart. She was versed on the topic and very well spoken. Her voice was loud and clear and she engaged everyone in the group who had questions or comments. The tour guide dressed very well and presented herself professionally.

The estate itself is bigger than it looks. Beautiful and well kept. The grounds are very sprawling and fun to walk around after the tour.

It was a real pleasure to take this tour and I will suggest it to anyone who asks.

“a relaxing stroll”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2008

I have lived in Salem for awhile, and had never been to the
Historic DeepWood Estate. I was looking for a place to take some
Christmas pictures. I went to check it out. The gardens were
amazing. Unfortunately the House was closed. This place is a popular place for photographers to take wedding and senior pictures at. A GREAT place to enjoy the flowers and sit beside a quiet stream.
