“Free wi-fi”
Reviewed 2 January 2012

This is a library on a pretty large system, I always find what I'm looking for and even things I'm not looking for. Plus they have free wi-fi if you happen to be traveling and need it.

“Salem should be proud of its library”
Reviewed 3 December 2011

The main Salem Public Library is a large, relatively new, and well staffed facility. Staff is very helpful. There is a large audiovisual center, an adequate number of computers, a well equipped auditorium, and a parking garage right next door. The library also is now equipped to loan books to cardholders' e-book readers such as Kindle and Nook.

“A terrific public library”
Reviewed 2 December 2011

We check out a lot of books from this library. They have an extensive collection, but they are also part of a regional library agreement that gives patrons access to titles throughout the region.

You can use computers, read almost any magazine and many newspapers. You can take classes. The concert hall is used often for lectures and music programs, for very reasonable admission fees.

Salem has struggled to maintain the quality of the library through several rounds of budget cuts, but the staff make the difference her. They are knowledgeable and helpful. They also run programs for children and families.

I love my library.

“Good Library, Living with Budget Cuts”
Reviewed 18 November 2011

We like libraries. We like THIS library. Great diversity of media, books, and children's programs.
I don't know how they maintain the level of competency they are at with all the recent budget cuts that abound in Oregon, but they do, with a helpful, smiling attitude.

“Great children's section and storytimes”
Reviewed 14 May 2011

Visiting grandparents with my 20-month old son. We went to the storytime three times while visiting. Super sweet librarians who seem to love their jobs. We sang songs, read books and met a puppet turtle.

They also have a Discovery Room that has a farm theme. It's a neat room but only opened for a limited time each day. And if the volunteer doesn't show up, they don't open the room. That is disappointing.

As for the children's book section, it's super cute. They have tons of natural light and cute set up with a carousel theme. They also have these amazing Toddler Tots. They are little plastic, see-through backpacks filled with books, CDs, DVDs and a three-dimensional item around a topic. We checked out the 'grandparent' pack and are loving it. Fun idea.
