Mums 80th and what does a family do?

Meet in Philadelphia from all around the world, fly to LAX and jump on Amtrak's Coast Starlight to Portland.
After an unreal trip via rail and sleeping berths with-in, on the Coast Starlight; our first stop was the Gilbert for a full bed and a real shower.

We were out of season and yet the extremely generous and hospitable owner opened up for us. We filled all of her guests rooms and by day when we were in; we filled it's public spaces.

Our stay was about the area and the beach but we all enjoyed the warmth and attention to detail with in the Inn itself.

The rooms are decorated in a modern yet Victorian style.
The shower was great, tea making and coffee facilities with biscotti complimentary in all of our rooms and refreshed daily.

The little town of Seaside was fun to walk about and restaurants and coffee shops are abundant and open even out of season.

For anyone seeking a little get away where you feel like you are staying in the comfort of an eccentric Victorian relative's home.................this is for you.

The Inn is really adult.
I do not think you or other guests would be comfortable with kids screaming about the place so best for couples or even an individual looking for a little 'me' time and quality R&R.

We loved it.

On when you go and why. No children, no pets. OK. Best for couples. It is a nice old house, and the Innkeeper, Maria I believe, is very nice and cordial. We had the largest room, but it isn't all that large. Had great TV reception and the wireless was good, too, IF you have to get online. I did, but I recommend leaving that thing in the trunk of your car. IF you are going to use the computer, there is no desk or table that will work, so your best option is downstairs in the former dining area, current sun room. Careful with the sliding tabletop (glass).

The house is beautiful, but being an old house, and if you are respectful of others, you need to tiptoe around. The other maybe minor thing is that from the photos, the house appears isolated, away from the beach. Not exactly. A giant condo complex was built next door and this poor place is mostly in its shadow.

For me and a smaller budget, and NOT on a romantic getaway (remember tippy toes!), I might consider a less expensive and uglier place on the beach. I mean, after all, the beach is why we go, mostly. Still, the house is nice, and so is the Innkeeper.

Room Tip: Prices are kind of high for what you get, and they are based a lot on the size of the room (as well...

The room was a tiny bit small, but had everything we needed. The bathtub was wonderful, the location was awesome and the fresh-baked cookies were a nice touch. The b&b owner was very sweet, and we loved the historic background & tour of the house.

Our first day of 80 on the road ended in this wonderful old house, well cared for with big room and lovely appointments. We enjoyed reading in the main room, and particularly enjoyed the Our only disappointment was finding that they no longer serve breakfast! Fortunately, they are located very near restaurants.

The Gilbert Inn is a wonderful change to new hotels. Maria was very helpful with reservations. We sayed 2 nights, mid week off season. Ask on specials & check the web site. She said was ok to check in early if we wanted. Our room was ready & very clean with private bath. The outside doors are locked & you have a key. Parking is good & in summer time would be a must. The rooms are not large enjoy the downstairs. The late afternoon cookies are a nice touch.

Room Tip: The Addie is the only room with a King size bed as of now. And a very nice new shower

The Gilbert Inn is a house, built in the late 1800's that has been renovated into an "inn". We were very pleased with what we found on our three night stay, and must say that all of the favorable reviews on Trip Advisior were pretty much right on the money. We stayed in the "Addie" room, and found it be be quite comfortable, with a nice king sized bed and a full walk-in shower. There are no phones in the rooms, which we found very nice. You could see the ocean and beach from our room, though limited. It is but a short one block walk to get to the beach and the "prom" in Seaside. A huge plus for this property, was that they request no children!! The staff was friendly, warm and very helpful. There is no doubt we will stay here again, and try another of the wonderful rooms.

Room Tip: The Addie room is the only room with a king size bed, and wonderful full shower.

If you enjoy that "old-time feelin'", this is the place for you! Surrounded by tall concrete tower-hotels, and just a short block from the beach, the Gilbert Inn is an island of sanity midst the towers of modernity.
Beautiful house, beautiful main level public rooms and modern historic guest rooms mark this one of the finest B&B style hotels on the Oregon Coast. We enjoyed the "Addie" room and will be eager to return just to discover the other personally named rooms. A very pleasant greeting welcomes you in the form of a gracious hostess, who is only too eager to please.
If you enjoy a taste of history, you'll just love the Gilbert Inn!

Room Tip: Each room is named and has its own personality... try one!
