“Nice hike”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

About 3 miles, and not very strenuous except at a couple of points, and always muddy except at the very height of summer, this hike takes you from one end of Tillamook Head to the other, ending either at a small park (Seaside end), or Ecola Park (Canon Beach end). There's a sheltering shack about midway which is a nice stop for lunch. Some impressive views seaward from a couple of points (including views of Tillamook Rock Lighthouse out to sea), but the trail is mainly through dense forested area. As noted, there's a couple spots which are muddy enough to come up over boots at times, so don't hike it in tennies except during the warmest weather.

“Best to be fit for it.”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

We hiked about three,to four miles into this trail between Seaside and Cannon Beach. There is serious climbing on switchbacks. No equipment needed but walking sticks are a real help on the downhills. It can be muddy. We were in our early 60's when we hiked this, and it was a good workout. We had hoped to get to Cannon Beach but after about 2.5 hours, we could not tell how far we had left to go. There could be a lot better signage, though the main trail is clear. The forest is beautiful, and there are occasional ocean views, though not as much as we had hoped. When we got to the camp ground (halfway?), we decided to go back to Seaside. We enjoyed it, even if we did not make our goal.

“Wear your boots.”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

This trail, which has some scenic sections, can be very muddy in places. There are logs and boardwalks in the wettest spots, but I would definitely advise you to not wear your new Nikes. Wait til the dry season to hike this trail unless you're prepared for the wet spots.
