“Great value and front row seat for wave watching!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2013

We absolutely loved this location! You cannot get a room closer to the breaking waves in Seaside. Most oceanfront hotels are separated from the water by the prom, a field of seagrass and then the wide sandy beach. The Lanai is separated from the water by a narrow rock beach. At high tide, it was almost as if the waves were crashing up below our balcony. We came to Seaside to watch the winter waves and we found the best place for it. We loved watching the surfers directly in front of our room (we saw in a guide that this cove is one of the top surfing spots in Oregon). We also enjoyed looking at the lights of Seaside off in the distance. We liked the fact that this is a smaller, less crowded hotel. We enjoyed being in a residential district away from the main tourist area. We walked to and from town numerous times - getting there was more than half the fun.

Each suite in the Lanai is individually owned. Consequently, each unit is decorated differently. The web site has numerous photos of each suite. Ours was exactly as advertised (in fact, it was better: the web site did not show the large bathroom with a handy storage area under the counter). Sure, our suite could use a few updates and a new tv - but it would be absurd to complain at this price: it was the cheapest ocean front room we could find in Seaside. When you factor in free wifi and parking, this is an outstanding value.

We stayed 4 nights including New Years Eve. The hosts and staff were very friendly and helpful. This is clean, basic and very reasonably priced accomodation in a fantastic location. We will be back!

Room Tip: I would not want to stay in the pool side rooms (I think there are only 4). They have zero privacy a...

Thanks so much for bringing in the New Year at the Lanai and
sharing your thoughts. The surf break, right in front of the Lanai is well
known in the surfing world and you are right, there is no closer place to
the ocean, especially for watching the storms. We are making upgrades all
the time. The next time you are back, the Lanai should be better than ever!

This place sits RIGHT on the beach - up close and personal. Rooms are not fancy, but clean and very comfortable. A gentle walk will get you into town for fun and food, although you can cook in your room too. Plus the staff is very helpful and friendly. Don't just think about it - go ahead and book a room. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a ocean view room, otherwise what's the point, right?

We stayed two nights, December 1st and 2nd (Saturday/Sunday) and were delighted. A bald eagle soared immediately overhead as we arrived, and we saw two bald eagles over the ocean on our final day. Incredible view of both surfers and a multitude of birds from both inside the room and from our private sheltered balcony.

Room Tip: We were in #37, very nicely decorated in warm tones of sand and red that felt very welcoming during...

So cool you got to see bald eagles! Birders tell us that
the Lanai is a wonderful place to watch birds and work on the life list.
We like the surfers too. Thanks for staying with us and sharing your eagle
story!

You feel like you are in the Pacific. Barb and Cory (Host) make you feel at home. Very clean and great rates. We enjoyed the Prom and Norma's Seafood. The local surfers are fun to watch. We watched sea otters from our balcony. You can watch the surf at night with the spot lights on.
Very relaxing. Happy trails.

We try to stay at the Lanai at the Cove when we visit upstate Oregon. It is right on the ocean and the view is spectacular. The surfers are out in the water behind our patio until late at night. The staff has changed, yet the place remains the same. Very comfortable rooms, with mini kitchens. The beds are perfect for a good nights sleep. The rooms are spacious and clean and so are the bathrooms. Truly a gem.

The hotel is off the southern part of the Prom, so it is away from the crowds and downtown. It is literally a stone's throw to the ocean. We kept our patio door open and went to sleep to the ocean waves, and woke up to the ocean waves! The rooms are very clean and well-maintained. Note that room rates drop substantially after Oct 1.

I have visited at a number of motels, hotels, bungalows and B&B's but I must say that the Lanai is one of my real favorites places to stay on the Oregon coast. The hospitality (special cudos out to Barb) is and always has been, just a warm and inviting place. The ocean rooms have probably one of the best views for looking out over the rolling surf and out towards the town of Seaside... so you get the romance of the city lights at night in the distance but not enough to obstruct all of the stars that come out on a clear night. The pool side rooms look over a nice little pool that's kept at a comfortable 85 degrees...nice! We walked down the beach to catch a beautiful red sunset and then built a small campfire from all of the washed up sticks...perfect! If you want charm, peace and to see the Oregon coast the way it is meant to be seen and experienced...then forget the room service and the price of hotel rooms that goes with that... and check into the Lani. You won't be disappointed. DD

Room Tip: Bring your own wine...and have a good time!
