“Where the action is, best view in Seaside!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2013

Staying in Seaside for Labor Day weekend seems crazy if you don't care for large crowds, which we don't. Yet somehow our week long plans had us there for Sunday and Monday night of what is probably their busiest weekend of the year, expect perhaps Spring Break. The weather was gorgeous, 77* one day, very warm for the Oregon coast, which brought even more people out to enjoy the beach, the shops and our hotels restaurant.

No worries though, at all. First of all, we were able to park at our hotel with no problem, plenty of spaces for all. When I went to the desk to tell them we had parked there while waiting for our hotel, the GREAT and FRIENDLY clerk, Rick, said that was just fine and that he could call us when our room was ready. Within 20 minutes, he had called, and he checked us in within 5 minutes, telling us we had his favorite room. He also gave us a few coupons for money off breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is NOT included with the room, but if you eat at their restaurant, there are a lot of choices or you can walk to Pig N Pancake or another. Hotel has a nice pool and hot tub also, we did not use them though. I could see why the room was his favorite, if you are on the top floor, we had the far most Northern floor so we had not only the huge balcony with a full view of the ocean, but also a side window, like a porthole, looking up the beach. Full kitchen, huge room, large seating area, everything was great! Looking out at the beach, we were shocked to see hundreds of people out there, it was packed. I wondered about the noise as they were booked up in the hotel, figured we would just have to prepare for some party noise and get over it. Nope! The whole three days, two nights, we never heard a noise from any other rooms. It of course probably helped we were on the top floor and end of the hall but it was great. I will say, people complain about NO A/C. That is correct, there is none but almost all Oregon beach hotels do NOT have A/C. why? Because it rarely gets warm enough to use it. You can just open your sliders and let the fresh ocean air in. This was a very warm weekend and I can say, being on the top floor, it was pretty warm. But they have fans they will bring you if you ask, we actually loved it and would never complain about that. But be forewarned, if you are staying on an upper floor and you love air conditioning!!!!!
We ate dinner at the restaurant both nights, my husband got the steamer clams both times, they were served in a huge bowl, lots of them, he was thrilled. Restaurant has a great view of the beach also, it basically sits on the beach. They had great music, I believe they have it each night except Sundays but they had a singer for the holiday weekend. Nice lounge, great happy hour with plenty of specials. Hey, and if you go to their website, click on the restaurant/lounge menu section (great secret) I found a coupon for a free appetizer. We used it both nights for the clams, $14 free seafood, cant beat a deal like that! (may have been for the summer only, I don't know.)
If you like all the shops, you can't get closer to this, walk out the front door and you are in the midst of it all. This is the top spot to stay to be on the beach and the shops at the same time. We were really pleased and will be back!!!

Room Tip: Top floor is quietest, ask for an end room. The rooms with the loft are really neat, we got to see a...

This property is right on the beach with a balcony. The oversized room had a kitchenette and a large LG TV with a gas fireplace. All the needed luxury for a stay at the beach. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was very good and I recommend it as the view of the beach is also memorable.

Room Tip: Do not get the non-ocean view rooms

There's a plaque in the front of the hotel which says it is considered one the "finest" oceanfront hotels in the Pacific Northwest... that may have been true back then, but it sure isn't today. The day we were leaving, they were re-modelling their front desk... I was tempted to say, "You should do the whole hotel, not just the front-desk." The hotel is super-dated, cramped. No A/C either. I'll stay at the Rivertide again next time I'm in Seaside. Frankly, I think this Shilo Inn is a tear-down.
The front-desk lady wasn't very friendly when we checked in either... She sort of threw these cheezy coupons at us.

Room Tip: The non-ocean facing rooms are small and cramped.

Dear inner5,

As you did note we are in the process updating the hotel. I see you stayed in the non view rooms. Most of the room work has happened in the oceanfront rooms where all rooms have new carpet, large flat screen TV’s, stainless steel appliances for the full kitchens, and we are making plans to continue updating all parts of the hotel this coming year. I’ll be sure to address the front desk issue as all guests should be pampered. I’d recommend the large oceanfront rooms next time.

Sincerely,

Shaun

How is it that a a motel... yes a motel can command $300 a night?!?!?! By all definitions, this Shilo In is a motel, and an old one at that. Hotel is in bad condition, in need of major renovation. No A/C.... yes, and I must repeat that... no A/C. The only good thing about this motel is its location. It is on the beach with nothing in front but ocean. So you are paying for location and nothing else... nothing else.

Dear 0878,

Sorry you did not enjoy our hotel. Many of our guests enjoy the complimentary glass of wine in our oceanfront restaurant, twenty four hour indoor pool, free parking, free wireless, free live music on the weekends, and our great location – just feet from the beach and shops. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a ocean front suite room. Room was nice and had a great view of the beach and ocean. The hotel was nice. Centrally located, free parking and free wifi. Nice staff. The only ding was the pool water was cloudy. Didn't eat at the hotel so I don't know if the food was good.

Room Tip: Pick the ocean front rooms. They are a lot more expensive but are much larger, nicer and worth the...

My wife and I recently stayed at the Shiloh Inn in Seaside Oregon and had a great time. We asked for a discount and even though we had not purchased our reservation through them they gave us a very good deal. It was our anniversary and they not only discounted our stay but they upgraded us to a suite facing the ocean. What a great surprise. We would recommend Shiloh Inn to any one. They have great management and a great staff.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room facing the ocean Ask about discounts and upgrades

If you want luxury, forget about the Shilo Inn at Springfield, Oregon, USA. But if you want a functional inn for a short stay and a group of friendly staff to assist you in case of need, the Shilo Inn may not be a bad choice.

I would suggest the management to change the carpet along the hall so that it looks nicer and cleaner.
