Before we stayed here we checked all the reviews. I was somewhat hesitant to stay here. From the outside it appears to be a bit weather worn. How could it not be, it’s right on the beach. The hotel is dated and in need of some more modern furnishings colors, but nothing was worn out or dirty. It’s decorated in the early 90’s motif, the mauves and teal green, still nothing to get your underwear in a bunch about.

We checked in and were greeted immediately. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Maybe because of the time of the year, we received coupons for breakfast and two glasses of house wine at check in. The elevators are a little slow. I was not expecting much from our room, but to my surprise the rooms looked great. Small yes, but modernly appointed, very comfortable bed, a small refrigerator, micro way and tv. The have wifi which is a must for me. Bathroom was the standard small hotel affair nothing to really comment about. We were not on the ocean side of the hotel as we had a pet room. We have a small dog. The hotel was very pet friendly. But they will call you if your pet is barking. As we all know you’re not supposed to leave your pet unattended. I was called.

We came here on a retreat, so we did get really good rates. The pet fee is $25 for the entire stay. Something to note is that most places in town charge pet fees by the day. Parking is a breeze. Two story parking structure adjacent to the hotel and parking is free.

In summary, this is a great place to stay. Great rates (winter), pet friendly and an outstanding location. Yes the building exterior and lobby could use a little more modern motif, but the rooms are very clean and well-appointed for the price. You not find a more friendly and accommodating staff. If we come back we’ll stay again.

We were only in the restaurant for tea and dessert, having stopped by because were last there there in 1985 and it still looked tempting. It was a grey, wild day and not the kind of day to put you in a good mood.

But we were shown to a nice booth with a lovely view of the sea; the young lady waiting on our table was very helpful selecting Earl Grey tea and also finding us very delicious Creme Brulee.

We felt really restored after consuming those, and also hearing how huge the waves had been a few days before.

A pleasant young man asked if everything had been satisfactory when we were on the way out.

We told him it definately was very enjoyable.

It was very peaceful and we wish it was like that in all restaurants. So if you want to have a nice time and eat something good and feel very happy by the time you leave, stop by the Shilo!

We stayed at Shilo Inn Seaside Oceanfront while competing in the American Kite Association Convention and Competition.

The service was way over the top. For a number of reasons our stay was revised a number of times due to competition changes. Not only did staff accommodate us, they did it cheerfully and without extra charges. In addition, they gave us a number fo complementary perks (like a free breakfast) just in case.

Would stay there again in a hearbeat.

Room was advertised as a having a full ocean view from the loft. This was very deceiving. Once you sat in the chairs you had a wonderful view of the roof with the anti-gull metal stakes running along the roof line and some of the ocean beyond that.

The bed was so bad that I clutched the edge all night it was so "sway-backed". The mattress was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever not slept on. The ceiling fan was coated with so much dust that we were afraid to turn it on and have all the dust land on us while we slept. The comforter on the bed was of no comfort as all the batting was in little clumps.

When we were leaving (well before check out time) the cleaning crew has their cart directly in the path and as we passed we were scowled at because we interrupted the chatting that was going on.

The hotel is very, very tired and should not be advertised as a "resort" - what a joke!

On the good side, this hotel has the best location in Seaside. Beyond that, small rooms, paper thin walls and floors, anyone walking in the outside hallways sound like they are in you room, any doors closing bang like they are in your room, and conversations from the street and adjoining rooms - you guessed it - sound like they are in your room. Overall, can't recommend that you go here. Oh, and free internet - yes - but did not work very well.

The hotel cannot be faulted for its location and accessibility; it's right on the beach, at the heart of Seaside (if you like that sort of thing) and has a good (free) car park for guests. Becuse of its location near the sea the fabric of the building is not that great - it looks like the salt has got to it a bit, and our room's metal window frames were extremely rusty (nice!). The room we were given was on the side of the hotel, giving us a partial view of the sea and a full view of the roof of the neighbouring hotel, and the many gulls that congregate on it. The beds were uncomfortable and it was nosy from the surroundings. It had just about enough room for the four of us, and the bathroom was clean, so that was OK. Another plus point is the pool - open 24h and giving a sea view. The helpfulness and demeanour of staff was questionable - we were hassled about the fact that our room was pre-paid but they couldn't verify this. Basically it was somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights on our journey, and then move on to somehwere better.

Dear Lythgoe

Thank you for taking the time from your vacation to review the Shilo Inn - Seaside, Oregon. I am glad that you were able to enjoy our location, feet from the beach, shopping, and attractions that all our visitors to Seaside enjoy. Cleanliness should always be expected and, like you, many guests enjoy the 24 hour pool area. I’m sorry to hear that the staff did not provide exemplary Shilo guest service. I will share your comments with our staff and redouble our efforts to fend off the effects of the ocean weather.

We would appreciate your patronage in the future.

Sincerely,

Shaun – General Manager

Thank you to the front desk staff! At checkin and check out staff was friendly and happy to see us. Love that the pool is open 24! We had so much fun swimming and relaxing in the spa that over looks the ocean. The beds are the best, it was a great stay and would like to do it againe before summer is over.
