“GREAT SURPRISE!”
Reviewed 20 February 2014

We have driven through The Dalles for years, and have always noticed this hotel on the hill. So when we were going to dtop for the evening, my husband suggested the Celilo Inn...I wasn't sure, because it looked rather dated when we drove by. What a surprise I was in for. Yes, the outside is dated, but the inside is totally updated, modern, and impeccably clean. I was so happy we stayed there! You won't be disappointed!

I actually stayed here once back in 1991 when it was under a different owner and name. It has been redone in a classic style and is a wonderful property now. Great views of the community, the river and the dam.

I noticed the motel sign on our trip east to Walla Walla. We were discussing that we may drive as far as The Dalles on the return trip and my son said you should consider staying at the Celilo Motel. He and his wife had stayed there several years ago and really enjoyed it. Since I knew where it was located and with the recommendation, we called when we were an hour away and made a reservation. The evening clerk was very helpful with directions and when we got there offered us a complimentary glass of wine and a 10% discount coupon to the Baldwin Saloon for dinner. The wine was excellent, the food and service at the Baldwin was very good and a complimentary continental breakfast of bagels and cream cheese, yogurt, fruit, juice and coffee was an unexpected surprise. The room was compact but designed well to fit a flat screen TV, microwave, frig and coffee maker and the decor was elegant. Definitely will stay there again.

We stayed for one night during the off-season on the way to eastern Washington. Access road was a little confusing, climbing up a hill past a row of small houses on a rough road complete with speed bumps.

Our room was in the upper level - very quiet. Room and bathroom were very clean and appeared newly furnished. The room seemed small for the price paid - only one bedside table and lamp and not much room to walk around the bed. The coffee maker was in the top cubicle of a multi-level piece of furniture; looked nice, but it couldn't be filled there (no room for the top to open) and the cord wouldn't reach an outlet - had to be placed on the floor. Staff was very friendly. Recommendations for dinner were right on. Nice place for overnight stop.

We stayed for one night on our way to Portland from Sisters. The welcome glass (cup) of wine was appreciated but the plastic disposable glass made the experience a whole lot less enjoyable. The room and bathroom was clean and comfortable. We were in a row of rooms higher up than the main body of the motel and traffic noise wasnt a problem. There were several nice restaurants in town, about 5-10mins drive away. Breakfast in the morning was better than average, we took a cup of coffee with us in a takeaway cup :) Good value, would recommened.

Went for a much-needed break from stressful jobs to spend time reconnecting. Highly recommend this place. It's quiet, clean and Pas was so warm and good to us. Excellent service and delicious coffee as well as extensive selection of breakfast items. Plan to stay again soon. Thank you Pas, for all your special service!

Stayed here 2 years ago & have wanted to come back ever since. This time we brought 2 more couples for a Dalles/Hood River weekend. Very friendly front desk clerks, nicely done rooms, enjoyed the wine sitting around the fire pit on the patio. All of us commented on the super comfortable beds. Appreciated & used the coupon book we received at check-in for Mary Hill Museum, Baldwin Saloon & Sunshine Mill Winery, among others. I will stay here next time I'm travelling through The Dalles.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a view of Mt. Hood, Columbia River and The Dalles dam.

Yes, our hotel passport is a wonderful amenity included in your room rate. We are happy to know you went to several wineries and received free wine tastings or discounts off bottles of wine. You are very kind and we thank you for your wonderful review.
