“Clean and quiet with wonderful view of The Dalles Dam & River”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

I recently came to The Dalles for a business meeting and tried out Celilio Inn. What a wonderful place. The recent remodel made the room clean and comfortable and the hotel check in staff was a real pleasure to deal with. They were friendly and wanted to do their best to make our stay a comfortable one. Who doesn't want to be welcomed by a free glass of wine as you arrive! A delightful spot off the beaten path with outstanding views of the dam and Columbia River. We will stay here again but next time for pleasure and not a business trip.

We were en route from Portland to remote eastern Oregon and stayed here on a pretty summer night. I was impressed with the remodel they've done on what was probably a pretty standard motel. The staff folks were so awesome. Really friendly -- gave us great advice on wineries to visit that afternoon.

This place is a remodeled version of an old motel perched on top on a hill overlooking the dam at The Dalles. It's located on the "wrong" side of the highway overpass; that is, on the east side away from the city center. When I entered the access road off of Highway 30, I felt like I was in some Raymond Chandler novel set in LA of the 1940s. The property has maintained the tall "MOTEL" sign that dates back to its no-tell past, you see tall stands of yellowed grass on the hillside below the property, and there were several manufactured homes alongside the road with vintage cars and trucks parked behind them. The bright sun of August and the train tracks visible alongside the Columbia River added to the film noir ambience, but all was calm.

The rooms are nicely decorated, comfortable, and clean. The wifi in our room worked very well, a welcome difference from many hotels that claim to have dependable in-room connections. There were complimentary glasses of wine for the first night's stay. On a Friday evening, we enjoyed the live entertainment and hors d'oeuvres on the outside patio. A satisfactory continental breakfast is served in the morning. The hotel is located just a few minutes drive from downtown, where there are various options for dinner.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main section of the hotel have unobstructed views of the Columbia River, but there...

I needed to meet some family in the Dalles or Hood River, but have grown weary of the chain hotels with the boring rooms and average customer experience. The reviews for the Celilo Inn on this site and others gave me great hope. I was not disappointed.

First, many have commented on the size of the rooms. Keep in mind that owner of this cute little place took an old motel from the 1950's and kept much of the original architectural character and styling cues. However, the rooms have been very tasteful renovated and updated on the inside. As such, the rooms are not huge. They are adequately sized but very comfortable and well appointed.
The staff was extremely personable and we enjoyed the free glass of wine, though we ended up buying a couple more bottles after the free sample. Our stay coincided with a large grass/wildfire just west of town, so there was some added stress for the staff and some of the guests (some of whom were locals who had been evacuated from their homes). They did a superb job of handling the situation calmly and professionally.

Overall, I was extremely satisfied with our stay and recommend the Celilo Inn to anybody who enjoys an experience that is just a bit different than staying in some boring chain hotel. This place definitely seems more connected to the community (i.e. local wine tours). The best part is that the owners took a rundown old motel and turned it into something unique, fun, and good for the community. I love this place and highly recommend it. It's just a cool little place.

Room Tip: Get one the king rooms with an a beautiful view of the Dalles Dam and Columbia River. Apparently all...

We've stayed here twice now. It is perched up above the Columbia River near The Dalles dam. The view is beautiful, especially at sunset. The motel was completely redone in a clean, modern style. The beds and linens are very good and there has been no smell of cleaning products. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer complimentary wine in the lobby or on the patio. The coffee is good and the continental breakfast featured nice extras such as fresh, local cherries. They also offer good coupons for local attractions such as Maryhill Museum and various wineries.
There is a lovely small pool.

Room Tip: The first time we stayed we opted for a queen room which was adequate but very cramped. We loved our...

We were glad to have found the Celilo Inn, since we couldn’t find any other nice accommodation in The Dalles. Celilo Inn is a little out of the way, east of The Dalles, and it has great views of the dam and the river. It’s a waste not to take a room with a view, it’s nice in daylight and at night.

Upon arrival we received a warm welcome and a glass of wine. We were given room 14, a king room with a view. The room was good, the bed large and the bathroom was adequate. Breakfast in the morning was ok. The terrace could have been nice, but during our stay it was very windy, so we didn’t stay there long.

Rented 4 rooms for my family the day before my daughter's wedding rehearsal and wedding in Parkdale, Or. It was a very comfortable stay and experience. The rooms are clean and look like they have been recently renovated. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating to any special requests or needs. I highly recommend this Inn to stay at for any occasion. You truly get a great place at a decent price.

Room Tip: They have pricier rooms with a view of the river and The Dalles dam and cheaper rooms without a view...
