The Dalles Inn is a wonderful little hotel in the heart of town we discovered by accident. The room was fresh and upscale and the bed had the blanket double sheeted, something I've not seen since I stayed at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The dog policy is the best we've run across with a special dog basket that even included a cover sheet for the bed! Finally, the breakfast room is the best I've ever seen, complete with hot griddles, two serving areas, TV and a nice view. All in all, a great experience.

Room Tip: The Motel section at the rear is perfect if you have a pet.

The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable and the bed was wonderful! They could have had more variety at the breakfast bar, though - still very good.

I travel -A LOT- for work. My company uses Corporate Lodging, so price is not an issue with me on the business trips, but CL only allows up to a certain limit. I have to say that the room provided was much better than what I generally wind up in (which are usually just average $80-150 rooms -then discounted for the CL).

The breakfast was usual c-w fare (Continental-cold w/waffle machine). The room was clean and and not cramped, nicely appointed. (They NEED to update and get additional outlets available though.) Appx. 35" panel-TV was nice w/OK channel selection. Bed a little too hard for me, but better than the opposite. Staff competent and friendly. It looks like they have DVDs in the lobby for use or rent (I was too tired to indulge).

Wireless, which I need for work, worked well.

Under tunnel parking was nice, or big parking area in the lot for better weather. Downtown area, but easy access.

I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Park next to the back lobby door, under the over-hang/tunnel in the bad weather

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Although the building could use some updating, the room was comfortable. The location is convenient and well suited for my business needs and at the same time in walking distance to good restaurants. The shower was great and I liked the dispensers for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. The bed was comfortable and I liked that I could control the air temperature and fan controls. I liked the availability of covered parking since I woke to heavy frost so I didn't have to worry about scraping my car windows in the morning. One recommendation would be to supply outlets near the nightstands for cellphone plugin without having to unplug lamps and or clock/radios.

The Dalles Inn is in a great location to stay while checking out the local wineries in the area as well as in walking distance to some very good restaurants. Very nice staff at check in/check out. Well worth the value at the time of year we stayed (Nov 2011).

Heading into town you see lots of signs advertising the "historic" The Dalles hotel. Since the signs look old-Western, I expected to see something with a little more character. Maybe some gables or something. Au contraire! It's a cinder block building, or two buildings, that look to have been built in the late 1960s or early 70s. Style notwithstanding, the place is just as good as a Comfort Inn or Best Western, and it's got a good location right in the middle of The Dalles, so restaurants and shops are easy walking distance. Service seems friendly, and there is ample parking, with a special place in front of the check in area for motorcycles. There is a flat screen TV, a coffee maker, a microwave and fridge, the basics. It's clean and well made up. I called at the last minute and got a room with king bed for $85. The shower is clean but they have a shampoo/creme rinse/soap combo dispenser instead of bottles, which I'm never crazy about, but it's ok. The staff had good recommendations on where to eat. The Clock Tower brewery next door is ok food for a quick dinner, refreshing array of beer on tap. I was worried about the place allowing smoking and pets, but there are no odors or signs of pets in my room. Whew. Overall very pleased for the price.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side are quiet, no noise.
