“A hidden gem!”

I almost hate to review this place as I would love for it to be kept as secret as possible.... my husband and I can't wait to be back to this magical place! Yes, the campsites can be a bit cramped, but it is still a gorgeous and clean campground with each site walking distance to the beautiful, spacious beach! Also has some amazing hiking trails to explore which lead to breathtaking views!! Definitely an instant favorite vacationing spot!

With every campsite within walking distance of the beach, this place is a must-stay if you want to be within reach of Tillamook or just the coast in general. I first travelled here eight years ago as a child and loved it enough to come back on my first road trip with a friend this year.

The campground is clean, quiet, and the beach is great for kids and adults. Whether it's swimming, sandcastles, romantic evening walks, sunbathing, or whatnot, this is the place to be. The beach goes on for miles (literally), and your mind and your feet wander as you let the crowds vanish into the ocean haze behind you.

This place is perfect for tenting, RVing or trailering. As it's Oregon State Parks, free showers!

Be warned, as many of the sites are pretty close to the other sites or have no foliage between them. You'll want to be a social camper if you stay here. It's not tight or crowded, it's just a little un-private.

Room Tip: If you like privacy, don't choose sites starting with A or B. If you want to be close to the oce...

We almost always stay in privately owned RV parks, because we prefer to have a great view from our rig. We don't like to "hike" to see the ocean!

Sadly, as with nearly all Oregon state-owned campgrounds, this one has no ocean views from the campsites. There is a berm between the campground and the ocean.

We also noticed that many of the campsites had limited privacy. One of the reasons to stay in a state park is that often the campsites are wider than in an RV park and they usually have vegetation in between sites, but a lot of these were close together and very open. Of course, there were tents mixed in with RVs, so the RVers would be subject to all the clanging and banging noises (dishes, etc) plus radios coming from the tenters.

There was one section that had kids running up and down the roadway, yelling and playing. Okay, they're kids, but why not go out on the beach to run and play?

We won't be back.

Room Tip: No ocean view from campsites

What a wonderful, amazing place! Nice and cool even on the hottest day. Beach is huge and very clean. Parking is always available, many picnic tables. You can witness a real miracle when fog spreads everywhere, it's so thick and dense that you can scoop it as ice cream.

Stayed in a Deluxe cabin and the location was beautiful. The beach was gorgeous. Cabin was nice except that the bathroom sink was plugged up and smelly. The kitchen sink drained very slow also, so we were forced to use the shower faucet as a sink. Nice porch, nice kitchen. Quiet area. Needed a bit of cleaning upon arrival, but I would love to go back for a week (when the sinks work), if I ever get the opportunity. I was only there for one night, unfortunately.

We thouroughly enjoyed our two days at Cape Lookout state park. What an experience to camp within 50 yards of the beach. We had a campfire on the beach, and took the hike from the campground to Cape Lookout. What a gorgeous view. It is one fo our favorite places to go. We will be back. The "C" campsite was great.

I hesitate to write a good review on this place because I don't want more people to find out about it, but I think it's too late! My family has camped here since I was a baby and over 25 years later, I still come back when I can. I've never been to a beach or campground I love more. I have so many great memories of riding my bike up and down the campground all day, campfires and smores at night and playing in the water. If you want to stay here be prepared to book out a year in advance during the high season. There is not a bad camping spot in this park, but I am partial to being close to the bathroom which have pretty nice showers. There is an option to stay in yurts which we did once and it was a really fun experience. The beach is really big and wide open. There is no lifeguard so watch your little ones. If you catch a very low tide, walk over to the rocks on the side closest to the day visitors section and explore the caves for some fun sea life. There are some nice hiking trails back in the day visitor section too. Last, don't miss sunset.
