Fun to take kids to hike around. I just feel so bad for the soldiers that were ready to fire on that Japanese submarine and the" leadership" would not let them fire the canons. How frustrating would that be? there is a ghost story from there, the civil war ghost soldiers were seen standing around a fire at the south end of the of the battery.

Lots to do here. If you are into biking it has miles and miles of bike paths that are flat and easy to do. If you go right at dusk you can hear coyotes in the woods and usually run into a few elk on the bike path. The beach is amazing, you can find all kinds of stuff.

In 1942 a Japanese submarine bombed the coast near this battery. visiting here reminds you of a US castle. Bring a flashlight and watch your step.

Battery Russell is part of Fort Stevens, which boasts a ranger station, gift store, picnic area, hiking trails and overnight camping. Well worth the time to visit a period of hour history

When you first get there, you have to go into the museum and look around, they've done an excellent job of it. The first time we went here was two years ago and you could walk up on the cement bunkers, this time they were fencing it off, now you can walk along the top and look down..shame history doesn't last forever. Still, it's a wonderful place to see, actually an amazing place to see and visit! You state park pass is useable for entrance fees etc to all state parks as long as it isn't expired.
