“Good Local Country Pub”

We ate here one evening while doing a walking holiday. The barmaid was welcoming and it was clear this is where locals go for an early evening drink. The menu was varied and interesting but not too expensive. The food came quite quickly and was very good. My husband's comment was ''this guy knows how to cook steak''. My salad was tasty, plentiful and very different. I can only say we had a very different experience from the previous 2 reviewers and would definitely go back again

We came across this attractive little country pub while out driving and decided to stop for Sunday lunch. The interior is cozy and looks lovely. There was only one person serving and she was very welcoming.
We ordered the roast dinner. It was well presented and looked appetising. Unfortunately looks can be deceptive. The board outside states this is 'home cooked proper food' (or words to that effect). The potatoes (roast and mashed) tasted artificial, definitely not fresh or home cooked. There was no seasoning at all and the other vegetables had no flavour and were indistinguishable from each other in taste. Even the cauliflower cheese was completely flavourless. All in all this meal was extremely bland. I would not recommend the roast dinner in this beautiful pub.

“Failed to live up to its promise”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

I visited for dinner with two friends, having seen the menu when visiting previously just for a drink. It's a lovely pub, but sadly the food failed to live up to its promise.
The starters took a very long time to come , and I had to return mine as it was cold, and frozen in the middle. When I pointed this out, a replacement was offered which came much more quickly and was properly cooked.
I also had to return my main course as it was undercooked; I was offered a replacement but declined.
To make amends we were not charged for the faulty items, and we were offered free desserts which we accepted - two of which were fine but one was burnt on top.
The lone waitress was very helpful, but our impression was that the pub had accepted too many bookings and could not cope - the problems with the food all seemed to result from rushing to keep up and not taking sufficient care.

“Hidden Gem of a Real Pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2014

Having dropped in for a drink earlier in the week and being impressed with the service and warmth of welcome I decided to take the family for Sunday lunch. Well, what a great family lunchtime we had, you must try it. Yes it is all cooked by the landlady we discovered, so it's not instant, but when you see it you will understand. Real food, superbly cooked and in a really classic country pub with friendly service. Yes it is dated as is the music, but you know what? I think that is the beauty of what the owners are offering, a bit of good old fashion service, food and welcome. Try it when you have time. It really is good.

“Warm country pub”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2014

The food is good and the staff are really nice. However they do not handle big groups well... Even though we had reserved in advance so they knew we were coming, they did not prepare for us and everything was incredibly slow.
