We had an enjoyable meal at Veya but my rating is swayed by the fact it was crazy expensive by taxi to get there from Malliouhana ($26 each way) and when we arrived our reservation was not listed. Unfortunately the hostess implied that I must have had the incorrect date. Last minute I had grabbed our reservation email (made two months ahead) and the hostess proceeded to read the entire email verifying date/time and the person who confirmed the reservation and with a bit of an attitude said "okay follow me". Interestingly, the table next to us never had anyone sit down the entire time so why the attitude?? Moral of the story - bring your confirmation email! We started with the poached shrimp which was okay. I had the Korean BB pork tenderloin which was my favorite meal of the four restaurants we dined at in Anguilla. My friend had the Mahi-Mahi which he enjoyed. The moist coconut cake for dessert was good but not great. We really enjoyed the signature cocktails. I am not sure what the hype about being in a tree house is about because we did not get that vibe at all. I could hear the music from my seat (60's -70's quiet music) but my friend could not and while the musician was very good I had hoped for more Caribbean flair but that was perhaps just luck of the draw. Overall we enjoyed the meal but it was not our favorite spot.

It's not often that you find fabulous fine dining on a small island that compares to a large metropolitan city. That's what Veya is. The attentive staff, quality food, and pleasant ambiance create a fantastic experience. My tips:

- Call ahead for a reservation. We made one day-of and still got in, but at just an "ok" table. You want to reserve a table along the perimeter of the veranda, right next to the trees.
- In the middle of the "house" is a great little bar, 4-5 seats and perfect for a pre-dinner drink. Recommend arriving early to sit here, converse with the bartenders and start enjoying the atmosphere.
- Don't skip the bread basket! Ours included Johnycakes, banana & pumpkin breads.
- Live music starts every night around 8pm. Check the website in advance for the schedule to make sure you'll enjoy it.
- After dinner, you can continue the party by going downstairs to have a cocktail and enjoy the rest of the live music set (not viewable from most dining tables). Great little Moroccan-themed tables and couches, perfect for relaxing capping off a fabulous meal.

Enjoy!

Kudos to the team at Veya. It was our third return visit over the past 8 years and the food is even BETTER than it was on our first visit. Service is attentive and well executed - everyone has a specific role to play and they do it well. Kudos Carrie on the Korean Barbecue pork and the shrimp cigars. May we have an order to go of the Johnny cakes and pumpkin bread? We'll be back.....

I was going to give Veya 3 stars because both my wife and I were not blown away by our meals--they were average...maybe just above average...but the place is super cozy and comfortable. And the night we were there the music was very, very good.

Our one week in Anguilla at the four seasons included two trips to this wonderful tree house restaurant! True confession we loved the bread basket and Johnny cakes and assorted breads that we got extra each time. Tuna entree was amazing!! Shrimp cigars to start! Great wine list. Fantastic service!!! Thank you!!!
