A great find on our trip down the Oregon Coast. Wheeler itself is a sleepy town with plenty of antique shops but the real attraction is the old Wheeler Hotel. The host was very friendly and informative as she showed us around our rooms (we had room 6 which has a separate but private bathroom down the corridor) and the shared rooms including the music room and the dining room. The dining room has everything you need for eating in including a great table and sofas overlooking the river. The host pointed out some elk and we spent an enjoyable evening playing board games, chatting to other guests, watching the sunset and the elk out of the oversized windows. Everything you could possible need has been thought about including plenty of binoculars for the guests. A continental breakfast is included which makes the hotel great value. There is also a computer for the guests to use but there is also free wifi too. As we were leaving, we popped our heads into the other rooms. One room had a hot tub in the room looking out towards the river. You would get great sunsets from this room. It would be worth paying the extra. The only downside was that room 6 was small (probably the smallest room we have stayed in) with hardly any room for a suitcase.

We are a couple who stayed in this hotel for memorial day weekend. It was lovely. The people were sweet and kind and professional. The room and bathroom was very clean. The breakfast was continental - but, well stocked and we had no issues. The view from the room was perfect, on the Bay, and it was quiet even though it was on the 101. They have done a good job soundproofing the rooms with double paned windows and a very quiet air conditioner. We could hear people just on the other side of the wall (bathroom use or doors closing) - but it wasn't bothersome. I especially recommend this area to get out of the craziness of Cannon Beach or other more touristy towns.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3 - which had the bathroom down the hall. We didn't have any issues with this...

My wife and I stayed at the Old Wheeler hotel for 2 nights. We had a coupon from Living Social. It was a delightful stay. It's an old hotel, dating back to 1920 and restored by the current owner in the past few years. It is extremely comfortable, has a wonderful view of Nehalem Bay (with a large herd of elks that can be viewed through 2 sets of binoculars thoughtfully provided by the hotel) and the staff are very informative and friendly. The furnishings are almost all antiques and, unlike other B&Bs and hotels we've stayed at, everything fits in; one doesn't get the impression that they are just plopped in for show. It's only 4 miles north to Manzanita, a larger town with some good restaurants and a short distance further north to Cannon Beach. The bed was superb with what must be a fairly new mattress and the room was very quiet, with double pane of glass.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the west have a great view of the bay and is quite lovely.

My husband and I stayed here in early march as part of a Living Social coupon deal. The king sized room we got was absolutely gorgeous--red velvet wall hangings, richly restored antiques, clawfoot tub in a private bathroom with a chandelier--really very nice. The hotel is immaculate, lovingly restored and quiet. There is a continental breakfast complimentary, and is next to two very good restaurant options and a bakery. Right next door are 3 big antique stores with amazing prices! This all looks out over the Wheeler bay. We had a wonderful time and I would recommend it to anyone. The service was friendly and efficient. Way to go Old Wheeler Hotel! We'll be back.

Situated just miles down from Oregon's coastal towns of Cannon Beach and Manzanita, sits the sleepy little town of Wheeler. The gem of Wheeler is the Old Wheeler Hotel. From the moment you step in the door you are transported back to the '20s with period decor and antiques. The innkeepers are very accomodating and friendly. We were welcomed with a personalized sign on our door, a thoughtful touch. The hotel has a gift shop with all the amenities you might need including snacks and sweatshirts. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, some with fantastic views. Although the decor is antique, the mattresses are modern and comfortable. Our room #2 overlooked the bay, a lovely scene to wake up to in the morning. They serve an extended continental breakfast with fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, eggs and coffee/tea in the lovely common room. There are wine glasses and corkscrews for your use and movies and books to choose from. The rooms have free wi-fi and a modern tv and dvd player. Just downstairs is a lovely little cafe for lunch and across the street is a fantastic restaurant, The Rising Star. The walls are paper thin but they do provide ear plugs, a nice acknowledgement of the old building's limitations.
We had a wonderful stay and there are very few negatives I can mention. The only reason I didn't give the hotel an excellent rating is that there are just a few things they could do to make it even better. For instance, there was not a rack or table to set your luggage on. The decor is beautiful but there are noticably cheap plastic light switch and outlet covers in the room. The drapes are not light proof and the light wakes you up very early on sunny days. The tub and shower and toilet are modern but very small and dated. I think in keeping with the decor I would have loved to see a clawfoot tub and old fashioned shower and toilet. The juxtaposition of the antique and modern but dated features ruined a bit of the period consistancy and charm.
Even so, the Old Wheeler Hotel is a delightfully quiet and charming place to stay and a welcome change from the more touristy and busy coastal towns.
TIP: Keep in mind Wheeler is a VERY small town and a bit of a drive to amenities such as grocery stores, ATM's etc.There are only a couple of restaurants with limited hours so plan ahead with reservations and knowledge of hours, etc. or you will end up driving into the other towns for dinner. Some of the places only take cash and there is no ATM in town. (The innkeeper was very accomodating to give us cash but she had a limited amount on hand) Shops and the marina close early.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms facing the bay!

You would never guess how wonderful the decor is inside, by looking at the bright yellow outside. From the old phone you pick up to announce you have arrived, to the elevator made for two. The minute you step inside you are taken back in time. Even the music adds to the charm. The Innkeeper gives a personal tour of the commons room and is helpful with information about where to have dinner. There is a large selection of movies.....and popcorn! Plenty of games and puzzles. Even books if you forgot to bring yours. Our names pinned neatly to our room to welcome us. We stayed in room # 7 with the large jacuzzi tub for two. A bottle of champagne..... to go with the fresh strawberries, fresh bread and different cheeses,{ I brought}
We sat at the table in commons room just about dusk and were lucky enough to see the heard of elk as they headed to the trees. Bed was wonderful and room was very clean. The fire place added a bit of romance. We were again lucky to have the elk much closer while we ate breakfast. Great coffee and fresh fruits.....plenty for all. Oatmeal and fresh raspberries hit the spot. What did I dislike? Nothing that comes to mind......except I had to leave. I am already planning my return visit, I want to stay in each room at least once!! Thank you "The Old Wheeler Hotel" and staff.

Room Tip: There are 5 rooms with great views. All are nice. Call ahead.....We stayed on a Monday and they were...
