“Rustic & Relaxing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2010

My family and i enjoy going to the wildwood 2-3 times a year. Due to the warm hospitality and cozy atmosphere found only in a small town like Willamina. The small family-owned & operated business is something that I can appreciate. The Wildwood is a step back in time from the pictures on the wall, to the awesome food served, to the building itself. Though it might not be a 5 star hotel, the owners & staff make up the differance above and beyond. The locals have always been genuine & pleasent every time we go.The six room hotel above the resturant & tavern has a quality unlike any other with such an eclectic vibe.My wife enjoys the common living room with all the different books to choose from and kitchen to make your own cup of tea or what ever else you choose to make for yourself .From a millionare to a hard-working class joe you will feel welcome everytime at the wildwood.

The Wildwood Hotel is a six room turn of the century building that sits right on Main Street in downtown Willamina. Each room is decorated in an eclectic B&B style, and there is a community living room with books, CD player, and television. There's also access to a full kitchen complete with coffee maker, microwave, range, and fridge.
We checked in downstairs in the restaurant ($55/night) before walking upstairs to the hotel. The first thing I noticed was that the last MAJOR remodel of the property probably happened in the early 1950s to allow each room its own bathroom. We opted for room #4, which is the only one with a shower. #4 also has the advantage (or disadvantage, depending on your point of view) of opening up directly to the community living room. During our 3-day stay, we were the only ones that used the living room and kitchen so it worked well for us. Each room is approximately 250 square feet--not too small. The closets have been converted to open sitting areas or perhaps a place for your kid to sleep. The room seemed clean and well cared for, but pickier travelers might notice some wear. Each room is carpeted, although the community living room has the original restored fir floor. The queen bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was well stocked with local lavender soap.
Downstairs you'll find a better-than-expected restaurant and an attached bar. You should know that the bar has live music on Friday and Saturday nights from 8pm to midnight, and that you can hear it from your room. That's great if you like amateur versions of "Roadhouse Blues" by the Doors (one of many songs we heard both nights), but not so good if you want to sleep before 12am. It didn't really bother us, but some people might find that a real turn off. The bar is non-smoking until the restaurant closes around 9pm.
We could pick up free WiFi in most areas of the hotel from the Willamina Chamber of Commerce across the street. My Verizon mobile phone worked just fine, but my wife's T-Mobile phone was a lost cause.
Each room is different, of course. #1 and #2 face Main Street and get great light. They probably get the best WiFi signal, but during the week they will probably be the loudest because of the log trucks. #2 also faces the parking lot of the 24-hour market, although that place seemed to be pretty dead after about 11pm. #1 and #2 are also the furthest from where the band plays.
Rooms #3, #5, and #6 all face east to the parking lot of the 24-hour market. #6 is almost directly above where the band would play, and WiFi might be impossible to pick up here.
#4 (our room) overlooked the roof of the building to the west and had the least amount of natural light.
In addition to the restaurant/bar downstairs, there are many things within 3 blocks: Two small parks, a full-service grocery store, a 24-hour convenience mart, a thrift store (Fridays only), a museum, a restaurant called Coyote Joe's (looked pretty Denny's-esque), a pizza parlor, a bar called Dillon's (the hardest bar to get kicked out of, according to a local), and a tattoo/piercing shop. Willamina is about 7 miles from the Spirit Mountain Casino, 30 miles from the beach, and just on the edge of wine country, so it's really a great location.
All the hotel employees were extremely friendly, and we had a great time here. But the loud bands on the weekends mean that this place is probably not for everyone.
