We live over 2,000 miles away in the Midwest and had stayed at the Overleaf for one night of our honeymoon a few years ago and couldn't wait to come back. Listening to the waves crashing on the rocks is pretty priceless!
This year we finally were able to make plans to get back to Yachats and this time booked FIVE nights in a Restless Waters room.
We were given a Restless Waters room as we'd reserved but this one was in the new addition (which was built since we were last here in the fall of 2004) and it was at least as nice as the other that we'd stayed in.
-Jacuzzi w/ the great ocean view.
-Decent bathroom (double vanity). Towels could have been softer.
-Nice kitchenette w/ frig, micro, coffeemaker, cabinets, cutting board, kitchen towel and small sink.
-The room was not huge, but big enough and in good condition.
-The room had 5 large windows (2 by the jacuzzi) w/ blinds plus the sliding deck doors.
-It had a small flat screen TV and a fireplace.
-There is now wireless internet thru-out the property and it worked well (good speed), which is a big deal to us!
-One big note...as others have mentioned, there is a walking path that goes between the rocks and the water and beyond the hotel property in both directions and this is fairly heavily used w/ guests from other nearby hotels, locals out for some exercise, people walking pets, etc, so you really don't have a lot of privacy.
Because of how the rooms in the new addition are turned you have EVEN LESS privacy because in addition to those down on the the path, the other guests also can see you from their decks. (This is not the case on the decks in the older portion of the building.) Please keep this in mind in deciding if this is the right place for you.
A few other notes regarding this property:
-There is (surprisingly) no air conditioning in the rooms which may or may not be an issue depending on the time of year you are going to visit. It certainly cools off by the water and you can leave your deck door open, but sometimes the humidity might get to you. We were very surprised about it!
-There is not only no smoking in the rooms but no smoking anywhere on the property which may be a good or bad thing depending who you are.
-The front desk is not staffed after 10pm and the lobby is locked.
-There is only ONE washer/dryer for all the guests and they have a sign up requesting that you don't do laundry after 8 PM!!! We found this very surprising!
-If you have a jacuzzi room, they ask that you not use the tub after 10pm.
I guess more time at the Overleaf gave us the chance to learn more about the "quirks", so you'll have to decide if those are things that matter to you or not.
Overall, there is no question that the view is fabulous, the property is nice, and listening to the waves crash on the rocks is about as good as it gets! I think we would have chosen to come back even if we knew about the "quirks" I've mentioned, because there are certainly some fabulous things that can't be discounted, but I guess I just wish we would have known beforehand.
