My friend and I ate there in early June for our birthday lunch. She had the portobello burger, I had the seafood pot pie. She liked hers mine was awful. It contained potatoes, peas and dry seafood. The crust was horrid and the food barely warm. There was no sauce in the dish which accounts for it being so dry. I was hoping ( since the menu looked good) that it would taste as good. Not. They were out of several of the dishes we wanted so we were stuck with what was left ( mostly burgers). I thought with so many cooks in the kitchen, it might be good. But you know what they say about too many cooks in the kitchen..... The wait staff was pleasant though so I'll leave good marks for that.

Local owners and seasoned servers; several with history working together. Kind and attentive staff. I've had a lot of their menu; usually it's excellent. Couple times it was average. That's worth 5 stars in a small coastal town.
They also do well when we place a to go order, wait at river edge for 15 min, get food and drive to cape perpetua for a dining view that's stellar. The gumbo and pastas stay hot for that trip.

Alder Bistro takes over in the same building that the La Serre Restaurant occupied. In some ways, down to the silverware and decor, not much has changed. This time, there is an attempt at a Creole kitchen accent. It is an attempt that fails.
I've tasted Cajun 'n Creole cooking down thar in Lose'ana. Sum-times love Creole Cook'n. You, Alder Bistro, are not good Creole cooking. Adding thick, heavy corn meal to a chunk'a catfish, then dosing it with cajun-spiced, thousand isle dressing, laying that on a slab of spicy cornbread is not Creole. The Creole shrimp and crayfish 'bar-b-q' sauce seemed like it maybe came out of a pre-mix box. Additionally, the bread was not fresh, although i could tell it once must have been delightful. The layered lemon cake dessert was neither room temperature nor cold (which do you want, just not in-between?) and the cake portion, between heavy layers of icing, was dried out.
This restaurant is new and trying to find its way. Someone else in our party had the NW salmon, and it was absolutely perfect. Dishes to other tables bearing orders for traditional NW Coast dishes (fish!) looked wonderful. Alder Bistro seems to have a desire to bring back a certain type of dining experience to Yachats, one that is not exactly fine dining but is more than casual. If it is to succeed, it probably needs to do what they do best in this area, which is serve great fish dishes that are reflective of this region, not the Gulf of Mexico. An upgrade to the overall atmosphere would also help matters, which seemed a bit too LaDeDa for the price of $160.00 (with tip) for 4, considering we only had two glasses of wine.

We stopped in, wanted to have a decent breakfast. We had a guest and wanted to return a favor by taking them out to a fantastic meal. That most certainly did not happen. Not only was the food average it was extremely slow in coming! One of our orders was given away to another table, the rest of us were told (by our server) to stop eating and wait for the order to be re cooked. So we could all eat at the same time! Had that happened we would have been eating very cold food. The ambiance was fantastic but the service was awful! On top of everything else, not only was no attempt made to compensate us for the mistake, were over charged ( according to the menu prices) by $2! As I said we had a guest so nothing was said at the time. Becke Ramos, Eugene Oregon

We stopped at this restaurant as we were traveling down the cost. Just a standard looking restaurant from the outside and inside, but the food was fantastic. We had breakfast; Tracy has the Corned Beef Hash which had potatoes underneath (excellent); and I had the Fried Oyster Benedict and it came with a side of blue/white potatoes. Absolutely terrific. These dishes could be split as there was a healthy serving on both; in fact the Benedict didn't need the potatoes as that was way too much. Service was terrific. Will definitely stop at this restaurant again as it was one of the best places on our trip for meals.
