My mom and I have been traveling up and down the Oregon coast for 25 years and the Silver Surf can't be beat! They have an indoor pool and hot tub that is never to strong with the chlorine. They will loan you movies. The flood lights on the beach are both good for watching the waves and finding your way back to your room, but a little hard to sleep with.

I can't tell you how this sweet little place holds a piece of my heart.

Room Tip: They are all great.

Another wonderful family vacation - our 7th year - at Silver Surf. Each visit brings more improvements and continued upgrades - loved the new pots & pans and beautiful wood railing on the deck. The spa temperature was wonderful, the new doors at the pool are greatly appreciated and, of course, the grounds were immaculate!!! Thanks again for your hospitality!!
Ruth

Room Tip: The cabins are the best!!

The Silver Surf is in a great location on the beach just north of Yachats. It's quiet and has a lovely view of the ocean. We were lucky and saw whales! A highlight of our short trip to the central coast. The room could use some updating, but overall it was very clean and pleasant. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and well appointed with good quality bath linens. We appreciated having a galley kitchen for our snacks, drinks, and leftovers.
The indoor pool was clean. The hottub only had one jet working and it was struggling.
Our deck was in need of repair. The railing was loose and the wood on the side was breaking apart. I noticed stacks of lumber in the driveway and various signs of work in progress in the laundry room. I take that as signs that the owners are in the process of making the necessary repairs and getting this beauty on the beach back in tip-top shape.
We would probably stay here again.

Sharon, Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Silver Surf. The property is over 80 years old and in need of some repairs and updating. Repair sometimes gets a bit overwhelmimg on a coast line, and you have to pick and choose what is priority, as the weather dictates how much time you are allowed. New management was put into place in October and our goal is to address many of the issues you have mentioned. We have been remodeling our vintage cottages since November and began demo on the flooring in our rooms in January. We are working around the clock replacing balcony rails and sliding glass doors in all of the rooms. We have quite a few odds and ends that need attended to but our overall goal is to be completed by May, so that we can begin painting the exterior. This past year we experienced quite the storm, that ended up blowing the roof to our pool off. Most of 2013 was dedicated to focusing on that project. We look forward to seeing you again and hope that you will be very impressed with the changes and remodeling we have completed.

My family has stayed at the Silver Surf several times, most recently this month. I have stayed in the motel once and twice in a cabin. We chose the cabin because we have two toddlers who need naps and early bedtimes and its nice to be able to put them in their own room.
The cabins are quaint, wood paneled, but nicely outfitted with a flat screen tv, dvd player, and everything we needed in a kitchen. The staff is kind. And of course, the beach is right there. The girls loved playing in the sand, getting wet and cold, and then jumping into the indoor pool. We loved how they wore themselves out!
The only downer for us is that the beds are not the most comfortable. But we have a memory foam mattress at home and those are hard to beat. Also, there is no heat in the bedrooms in the cabins, so if the doors are shut, it can get very cold.

I just spent another week at Silver Surf and it was wonderful. Improvements to the pool and the property are great. Staff was very helpful and accommodating to my needs. I love the easy beach access and how close it is to Yachats, Waldport, Newport. I will be back next year.

Room Tip: I feel best rooms for view and comfort are 21, 30 and 41. they are corner rooms. or cabin #42

We stayed here for one night this past August.

The property is in an beautiful location and just steps from the water. You can see miles of sandy shore and water that goes on forever right from your window.

It's cold in north coastal oregon in the summer! Bring a warm jacket and you can take a quiet walk on the private beach right behind the motel.

The positives of this motel are:
- Very friendly service. The lady in the office was really kind and lovely.
- The rooms have been newly remodelled and have new bathrooms as well as new appliances in the kitchenette and new tvs and dvds.
- You can borrow dvds from the office at no charge.
- The view is amazing and you can hear the ocean from your room.
- Very clean.
- Nice towels and toiletries.
- Rooms are spacious.
- There is a pool in a separate building. We didn't use it, but I saw some small kids in there who seemed to be having fun.
- Close to town where you can get groceries and supplies.

Some considerations:
- It is an older property and even has "real" keys (like from the 70s!) which my kids though was kind of cool.
- The whole property is rather "rustic". Some cracked wood here and there and rickety stairs. I'm sure it's stable enough but looks like it could use some reinforcements. They were doing some work on the stairs while we were there, so it is being cared for.
- Seems to be in step with the other properties in this area in that it is nothing "fancy".

Overall, it was just fine and suited our needs for a place to stay for one night when passing through. The oregon coast is absolutely spectacularly scenic but soooo cold!!!!

The Silver Surf is right outside of Yachats just enough to get you away from the busy-ness of the town itself. Once we got checked in, we wandered around the grounds checking out every inch of the place. There were people flying kites on the beach right behind the motel! There are lounge chairs provided on the beach, but you don't need them because we had a balcony we could sit on to watch the sun set into the ocean. Being from Kansas, it was a real treat!
A fire pit and firewood is provided, so we built a fire and roasted marshmallows. There is also a volleyball net and a horseshoe pit to entertain guests.
When we checked out the next morning, the owners chatted with us about our destination and gave us several recommendations that we greatly appreciated.
We were only there for one night, but if your needing a great place to stay no matter how long, I'd definitely recommend the Silver Surf!
