We needed to just get away. We wanted a place where we could just wander around all day and see sites without having to drive. Usually we go to Gettysburg for this, but with the 150th anniversary, that place is crazy. Bedford is a nice cozy little town that fit the bill. The B&B itself is located only 2 minutes walk from downtown, but you would never know that you were that close!
The town is wonderful. Think all those idyllic mid-America towns in the movies. This is Bedford.
The B&B is wonderful. A step back in time. The library is a stunning work of art, and the parlor, well, once you sit in the parlor and chat, you understand why homes had a parlor way back when!
The proprietors are wonderful folks and even host a cheese and wine social in the evenings for their guests. Now, if you just want a bed, you stay at a hotel. You stay at a B&B for the experience. The cheese and wine social was a wonderful way to meet the other guests and engage in some very pleasant conversation (remember that? It's kind of a lost art - wonderfully rediscovered at the Chancellor's House).
Breakfast was wonderful, we cannot say enough about the great food and even more wonderful conversation.
The proprietors were very knowledgable in the local area and very helpful. They keep a very clean home that is very comfortable.
For me, one con was the beds were very hard, but for the Mrs. it was just right and she slept like a baby the whole time! Another con is the walls are a bit thin and it was easy to hear the other guests. However, the guests were all quite polite and we did not find it disturbing in the least, and it was a full house during our stay.
If we ever do the Bedford sightseeing again, or just need to step into another time to get away, we will surely consider another visit to this wonderful home!
