“A step into another time and place”

We needed to just get away. We wanted a place where we could just wander around all day and see sites without having to drive. Usually we go to Gettysburg for this, but with the 150th anniversary, that place is crazy. Bedford is a nice cozy little town that fit the bill. The B&B itself is located only 2 minutes walk from downtown, but you would never know that you were that close!

The town is wonderful. Think all those idyllic mid-America towns in the movies. This is Bedford.

The B&B is wonderful. A step back in time. The library is a stunning work of art, and the parlor, well, once you sit in the parlor and chat, you understand why homes had a parlor way back when!

The proprietors are wonderful folks and even host a cheese and wine social in the evenings for their guests. Now, if you just want a bed, you stay at a hotel. You stay at a B&B for the experience. The cheese and wine social was a wonderful way to meet the other guests and engage in some very pleasant conversation (remember that? It's kind of a lost art - wonderfully rediscovered at the Chancellor's House).

Breakfast was wonderful, we cannot say enough about the great food and even more wonderful conversation.

The proprietors were very knowledgable in the local area and very helpful. They keep a very clean home that is very comfortable.

For me, one con was the beds were very hard, but for the Mrs. it was just right and she slept like a baby the whole time! Another con is the walls are a bit thin and it was easy to hear the other guests. However, the guests were all quite polite and we did not find it disturbing in the least, and it was a full house during our stay.

If we ever do the Bedford sightseeing again, or just need to step into another time to get away, we will surely consider another visit to this wonderful home!

Room Tip: The Dogwood Room is the largest with a wonderful walk in shower and separate tub.

Simply put, we planned a nice three day weekend and it turned into one very unpleasant evening in this otherwise lovely designed and appointed bed and breakfast. We got our medical degrees from this Chancellor's University of Pittsburgh, and the reviews looked very promising. The Chancellor's House is a magnificent structure and it is a lovely place to visit during the daylight hours. We simply couldn't sleep in our room and we left after our breakfast. The noise of racing car engines all night made it impossible to get any quality sleep. The only negative review that we read mentioned a Racetrack is near this seemingly serene B&B and it only seems to make sense that the many good reviews were written when this kind of activity was most likely not in effect. The negative review is dead on the money and they were being kind. We also found the room unsatisfactory in regard to a very uncomfortable bed and no place for us to hang our clothes. Our friends' provide much better accomodations when we visit them than that which we experienced that day in Bedford. The proprietress seemed otherwise distracted by a family visit and may just have been off of her game during our visit. Our trip to Bedford Village was Excellent, as were all of our experiences we enjoyed in Bedford. We simply would not advise taking your chance on having anything Close to the experience we endured in The Chancellor's House.

Room Tip: If this is your only choice in town, ask specifically for a room where you will not be awake all nig...

As proud owners of the Chancellors House Bed and Breakfast we have appreciated the many wonderful reviews our guests have taken time to write over the years. They provides a valuable service to the traveling public and future guests. While we respect everyone's right to express their honest opinions, we feel corrections are sometimes necessary when comments are either inaccurate or misleading.
There are two inaccuracies in this review. The reviewer complained that he/she was kept awake "all night" by the noise of racing cars. This is not correct since there are no "all night" car races in Bedford, ever. The comment referred to the car races held at the Bedford County Fairgrounds on Friday evenings during the summer months from 7 to 11pm. Although we can hear the races from our location they are not so loud as to annoy most people. Although we wish we didn't hear them at all we also respect the fact that we live in a community of people of diverse tastes. Most nights in Bedford are typical of all small towns that roll up the streets early, and there is virtually no traffic noise on our street.
The second inaccuracy is the comment that the bedroom had no closet. All our bedrooms have closets. We are always happy to help our guests find what they need or accommodate special needs whenever possible. And since we live on the premises we are available anytime to help in emergencies.

We wanted to take a weekend getaway outside of Pittsburgh in February and choose Bedford based on the great reviews for the Chancellor's House as compared to other B&Bs in the same radius outside of the city. So glad we did!

Steve and Lynn are wonderful hosts, and even stayed up to let us in when we arrived much later than expected (it was snowing on our way that evening). The house and rooms are beautifully and intellectually decorated, completely renovated with modern amenities, and the added conversation about the history of the house and local area was a wonderful plus! I think we ended up spending a good couple of hours just chatting in the library room with Steve and Lynn, and that's aside from the good company we received during breakfast! The breakfasts were delicious and different each day. In the late afternoon, before heading out to dinner, we were also offered wine and cheese to enjoy.

The Georges are active in the local community and can recommend many excellent restaurants and things to do. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them and would certainly book again when in the area!

Far exceeded our expectations. We were met with wine and cheese shortly after we arrived, and got great advice on where to go in town after that. Steve and Lynn made us feel very comfortable. The Chancellor House is in a great location, just three blocks from downtown. The home is beautiful and sits astride locales of significant historical value. It's clean, and sunnier than you'd expect from a grand Victorian. Breakfasts were different each day, delicious, and bountiful. If you are looking for someplace in town, that's clean, comfortable, affordable, and that you will feel good about staying at, this is your place. By the way, we loved Bedford. Lots of little surprises in this clean, charming town.

Our first experience at the Chancellor house, and it surely won’t be our last! Everything we had hoped for from our two night stay became our reality at this beautifully appointed B&B with hosts Steve and Lynn George leading the way. We occupied the Dogwood room and would recommend it highly. Very nicely appointed, clean and spacious with tremendous attention to detail. Lynn and Steve would time and again go out of their way to make certain we truly experienced the B&B philosophy, being pampered !! From breakfast in the morning to offerings of wine and cheese before dinner the conversation was our added bonus as the George’s offer more than just their beautiful home. We will no doubt return. Thank you ! Fred and Kori

The B&B was beautiful, warm and inviting. The Georges are super, offered us cheeze and wine and some very good advise on places to see and food to eat. The room was terrific! of course the location is great -close to shops and eating places. Breakfast was great, a fine ending to a wonderful time. This will be a more than annual event for us as it brings you back to the days of good friends and good times!

My wife and I have a weekend house in the nearby town of Mann's Choice, but this past weekend, we weren't going to be making it in until late at night, and the house was going to be freezing. It would have been an unpleasant night. So we made last-minute reservations at the Chancellor's House, and we were lucky to get a room - even in the off season they are usually full! Steve and Lynn greeted us warmly and treated us like family from the moment we arrived. A comfortable room, beautifully appointed waited for us, and we had a lovely night's rest in a warm bed. The next morning, breakfast was great, and they even let us stick around for a few more hours, since that helped us out. Wonderful service that you just don't find any more! A great stay in a wonderful B&B. If I ever need a last-minute stay, I know where I'll be going, and I recommend you stay here as well!

Room Tip: They have three rooms, and all three are corner rooms, so you get plenty of light and views. No nois...
