“Sad”

This place used to be full of old furniture and keepsakes. There used to be many stories shared by the volunteers but in recent years has declined, antiques are missing and less volunteers to share stories. Some buildings were not even open the last two times I have been there. I will not return,

“A shame”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

Although closed the day we dropped by, we did have the opportunity to ride our motorcycles through a goodly portion of the village before getting back underway.

We actually stopped to view the covered bridge (which is part of another recommended tour in the area).

I would like to go back and have a good look see when it is actually open, judging from what we saw on this visit.

“Wonderful Visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

Old Bedford Village is a wonderful escape into the town's history. The village showcases how life was back in pre-21st century with staff re-enacting what life may have been like back then; the potter, the pharmacist, the tavern keeper, the shop keeper, children's games and many/much more. This is a fun event and activity for singles, couples and especially families. If you're staying at the Omni Bedford Springs Hotel and need a break from the hotel (as we did come day 2), this is the perfect break and/or compliment to a nice weekend in Bedford.

I can't compliment this place enough and how much fun it is. We laughed, enjoyed the history, had a blast and a fun, fun time! This place is worth a visit.

“So, So”

From where you park to where you enter is ridiculous. This was ok, but would not go back. It could be more interesting and exciting, leaves a lot to be desired.

“A nice effort”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

Old Bedford village is a collection of 18th and 19th century buildings from Bedford County. Many if, not most, were disassembled and relocated here to recreate what a village in the Bedford area would have looked like in the past. Some of the buildings are devoted to certain crafts: spinning/weaving, metal work, baking, retail, blacksmithing etc. When we visited there were a few artisans present and the village was nearly empty.

We had a nice conversation with the lady in the building with the spinning wheels . . . she gave us a nice background of the village and how it was developed. I asked about the mix of events some of which didn't seem pertinent to the history of a village in Bedford (Vietnam weekend for example). It seems Old Bedford Village, like many attractions, needs to draw attendance to survive. If a respectable event can draw people who will visit the village, I suppose they allow it. They also draw lots of school children on trips who come to learn about early American village life and some of the crafts.

Anyway, if you are in the area and have a little time to spare, you might find a stop here interesting and informative. My guess is that on days with more craftsmen/artisans are on site it would be of greater interest. But, for many of us seeing one more pottery shop, blacksmith, broom maker or farrier isn't at the top our our "to-do lists".

Having seen the signs for Old Bedford Village for many years, I am glad we stopped following our visit to the Flight 93 Memorial. We spent some time and saw what was available in the village that day. We had nice conversations and bought some very good cookies, too.
