LIFeSTYLE at 108 Pine St in Bedford is something bright, refreshing and special.
My wife and I decided visit Bedfore PA for father’s day weekend. To complete a stop at the resort we read about the LIFeSTYLE Trattoria offering a special Saturday night 5 course set menu feast.. We called ahead and made one of the last seating and were told by chef Stefano to bring a good bottle of wine matching up with chicken. At $50/person this would be a good deal most places, but with the quality of this it seems like a half price special.
By day from Tuesday to Sunday LIFeSTYLE is a Mediterranean store offering artesian ingredients. At 7:30 our tireless hosts Sarah and Stefano Ferrari (from Milan) turn it into a Trattoria with a long table. The night we were there people had come from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg and the DC area. Most couples were staying at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort and were ready for a 4 star dinner.
Following introductions we were off to friendly conversations. Our table neighbors were Hap and Kitty from Harrisburg and delightful companions and conversation flowed as effortlessly as the wine. The arrangement encouraged conversation as everyone uncorking wine. Ours was purchased from across the street at Brian Valley Wine – we stopped for the $3 tasting in the afternoon and that was a great experience in itself.
Our communal feast started off with a zucchini carpaccio appetizer. We immediately knew we were in good hands and that the local, organic farms were delivering the goods. Transparently thin sliced zucchini was topped with wonderful slivers of Parmigiano-Reggiano and the whole lightly moistened by whisper-flavored olive oil. One scanned the shelves for a bottle of this oil it was so light. Portions were just right
The 2nd course was lightly peppered, sweet, summer appropriate melon pasta. Tastes of Venice! No sauce was needed and the melon seemed like squash at times. Again the pasta was so balanced one looked to the selves with a night-time purchase in mind.
The main course accompanied by a simple bread had a Middle East feel with a saffron-lime chicken that boasted free range goodness all through it.This was accompanied by a light salad.
The 4th round was a 3 part cheese course –of mild to strong goat, manchego (sheep) and 6 year old Pecorino Romano adorned by sweet jams, toasted nuts and oil.
The dessert course was strawberries and whipped cream, which matched the meal well, but left we wondering what Tiramisu or Zabaglione might have tasted like or maybe Lemon and Orange Ricotta Cheesecake or Panforte.
Washing it all down was the best coffee this side of Sicily.
By all means go…and if you get there early you can check out the candy & tea store next door.
