Stayed here for one night on the way back to NY from a Midwest road trip. Pure luxury. I almost did not want to leave the house, but the town is beautiful and has lots of cute bars and restaurants too. Even though we will probably never have a reason to be back in Bellefonte, I have a feeling we will come back just to stay at Reynolds Mansion again.

Room Tip: Green room is the best!

This is an excellent option to explore the college and get a taste of history without the big-box hotel feel.

We reserved the “trophy room”, and upon arrival learned we were the only people staying our first evening so we got a complete tour of the house from the host and got a peek at all of the rooms. I found the “cherub room” less creepy in person than on the website and the “trophy room” while large was a little awkward as the bathroom is not fully enclosed. Indeed, the door to the bathroom is clear glass and not actually attached to the wall in a way that will afford any privacy (this is due to the owners trying to keep as much architectural integrity as possible). This awkwardness and the desperate need for new pillows that are not completely flat pancakes or hard lumps are the only downsides to the room we had. (But maybe all the other rooms have excellent pillows?) A side note: “the trophy room” and “the colonel’s green room” are the only two rooms with king beds; the others have queens.

The house itself was lovely and we took advantage of all of it. I sat and read a book and had a glass of wine on the front porch. We played pool and cards in the billiard room and had brandy in the library/snuggery. There were 2 other couples staying at the house on our second night but we never even saw them until breakfast. It made me wonder if guests ever actually take advantage of exploring the house or using the game room. I highly recommend immersing yourself into the house and its architecture. The floors, woodwork, and details are a true throwback to real craftsmanship.

The owners were welcoming, the dogs were friendly, and breakfast was delicious. We’d consider staying again if we were in the area, but we’d probably choose a different room.

Room Tip: The trophy room bathroom is not completely enclosed--no ceiling and a clear glass door directly in f...

We are constantly striving for excellence in our service, accommodations, and breakfasts, and take our guest reviews very seriously. We appreciate advice/concerns and try to remedy them as soon as possible. In the case of the Trophy Room, yes, the door to the bathroom is glass and we have considered putting cellular shades on it. As this guest mentions, it was the original door to the ammunitions closet dating back to the 1920's, and it adds a certain character to the room, so we decided to leave it. However, we do understand that it could be less than private. We are going to try putting an opaque film on the door rather than a shade that would move around or be cumbersome.

As for the pillows, they are brand new. We do have a closet full of extra pillows and would have gladly changed the pillows out for the second night's stay if we knew that they weren't comfortable.

We make every attempt to have satisfied, happy guests! The Reynolds Mansion is a unique property that we are fortunate to live in and share with others. It is our hope that our guests have a great experience that keeps them coming back. If something isn't quite right then we need to know about it and we'll do everything we can to fix it. Thank you for the input!

I just read the review prior to writing mine and that person had my exact same experience! Just wanted a stop along our way to Cleveland and ended up with a wonderful experience!

We arrived late and had a very warm welcome from the owner Mike along with a great tour of this beautiful mansion! He then showed us our lovely room with a Jacuzzi along the window...down the hall was coffee and water in a small refrigerator. It felt like we were staying with friends! The next morning we had a great breakfast and met other guests that were also having a wonderful time - we shared some travel stories and alot of laughs! Tricia & Mike were awesome and we will definitely stay again. It was a highlight of our trip as well!

Wanting a mid-way stopping point off I-80 between New Jersey and Cleveland, we chose Bellefonte, PA, and the Reynolds Mansion Bed and Breakfast. Although we've stayed at many bed and breakfasts, some in historical buildings, we were wowed by the Victorian architecture, furnishings and detailed craftsmanship of the Reynolds Mansion. Our genial host Mike explained the house was built in the 1880s for a banker, and it shows -- from carved woodwork to ornate fireplaces. We stayed in the Colonel's Green Room, which true to its name was decorated in green, with all the modern conveniences you could ask for, including a king-sized bed, flat-panel TV, Jacuzzi and air conditioning. For an early dinner, we tried the nearby Gamble Mill Restaurant, where we were welcomed warmly at the bar and enjoyed good food and drink. Although it was only a stop along the way to our ultimate destination, the Reynolds Mansion was one of the highlights of our trip.

Generally we do not stay at Bed and Breakfasts. However, the Reynolds Mansion has changed our minds. After a long drive to Penn State, we were welcomed warmly by Mike and Tricia and shown to a beautiful room. The crowds that weekend in Happy Valley were truly incredible and it was nice to "get away" from them and return to the Reynolds Mansion. The porch was such a nice place to relax with a glass of wine after the crowds and parking problems at Penn State.
Mike's breakfasts were delicious and Trish's baking (scones, cookies, cake) were equally as good. We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone traveling in the area.

My family has always preferred to stay in B&B’s when we travel and Reynolds Mansion is by far the best we have encountered. We found the Reynolds Mansion five years ago when our son started at Penn State. It is our home away from home when visiting Happy Valley. The owners, Tricia and Mike are wonderful people and gracious hosts. The inn is absolutely beautiful; from the wrap around porch, to the snuggery, billiards room or living room, you will always find a place to relax. Each bedroom has a personality of its own with very comfortable beds, and spa like bathrooms. Mike is a fantastic chef and the breakfasts are always delicious and unique.
We have visited for events, football and most recently with extended family for our son’s graduation from Penn State. We wanted to avoid the hassles of restaurants and crowds so we asked Tricia and Mike if they would host the weekend for us not only with rooms but dinners as well. Tricia and Mike truly outdid themselves on this visit. We arrived Friday afternoon and before heading to graduation we enjoyed a delicious dinner of sandwich wraps, salads and yummy birthday cake (prepared by Tricia) for our younger sons 21st birthday. Saturday evening was the graduation celebration for our older son, starting with appetizers (amazing) of scallops wrapped in bacon, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and the best ham and cheese sliders (yum!) around. These tasty treats were followed by dinner (even more amazing) of braised short ribs or chicken marsala (yum! yum!). Tricia’s delicious desert of molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream is a chocoholics dream.
Reynolds Mansion has not only provided us with a wonderful place to stay, but with new friends, the Andriaccio family, Tricia, Mike, Carly, Tony and Nia. Tricia and Mike, we cannot thank you enough for all the wonderful stays at your inn, full of family, friends, food, fun and some very special memories. You’re the best!
