“Great stop-over in heart of Amish Country”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2014

Stayed one night on 3000k road-trip. Cant remember suite name but across road from check-in, place is basically 4 old homes. Suite was great with fireplace, seperate spar bath & kitchenette.
I asked for a balcony room overlooking main road when I booked, paid a bit more but got great view of Amish buggies clip clop past down road.
Staff were great, wi-fi & breakfast included.
From there easy to take a paid Amish buggy ride from down the road & & if have own car just drive around the country roads to see the various sights & maybe a few covered bridges.
Rated a 10 out of 10 experience

Room Tip: I think all the rooms would be OK, but if you book upstairs remember no lifts so need to carry up yo...

It is a fine place. A little stinky, but that may be because of all the animals in the area. The breakfast was not that great. It was day old bakery goods from their bakery. Breakfast is the start of my day and I need the fuel of protein.

That fresh country air can be stronger than we like some days, but fortunately it only lasts a few days. For your protein needs we have hardboiled eggs and yogurt – that’s in addition to our waffles, cereal, fruit, and pastries, muffins and Danishes baked fresh daily right in our own bakery! For protein lovers, we recommend the Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant’s delicious breakfast smorgasbord with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, scrapple and all the protein you could want, just a quarter of a mile away.

As we walked in the inn It was as though I was swept back in time. You could almost imagine coming into this tavern/inn looking for a night stay. We were greeted with a folder of various promotions with our name and keys to our room by a very courteous staff. Our room was well appointed with period furnishings. And yet we also had a good size flat screen, refrigerator, and free wifi. The breakfast was well done with a variety of pastry, breads, cereal. The highlight was the waffle with fresh fruit toppings available. make sure you take time to explore the variety of rooms offered. Located on route 340 it is very accessible to all area attractions yet not in the midst of the congestion of route 30. Having stayed in many of the area hotels we are heading back here in July! If you are tired of the uniform franchise feel of today's hotels, breakaway and consider a stay at this historic and charming inn.

Room Tip: there are multiple buildings that are part of the complex. Check to see which building you will be i...

We’re so glad you mentioned the historic aspect of our hotel. Our 1734 Inn dates back to the 18th century when the land was purchased from William Penn himself, and our check-in desk is the original bar from the inn’s tavern, in use since the 1800s. We hope you’ll stay with us again. Thanks for recommending us!

The place has a good feel from the time you arrive and get acquainted with the staff. Peggy was our favorite, in fact when we left she gave us a hug. That was a first. She was so helpful in planning our time in the area. The hotel offers a bus tour free of the Amish countryside with 3-4 stops to visit different stores. Our favorite was the hot pretzel stop. The rooms are very comfortable but be prepared to carry your own suitcases to the upper floors. We were on the 3rd floor. It was good exercise for us. The room had a very cozy feel to it. There was a flat screen TV and had air conditioning as well. In the evening there are treats for the guest and since we came back late, the lady at the desk had saved us some for our room. They also include bottled water. Coffee is available all day long. The breakfast is help yourself with a waffle maker if you choose as well as the other typical items. We stayed 3 nights and felt this was our favorite accommodation on our 2 week vacation in PA.

My wife and I stayed here recently in the Haefner room. The Inn was charming, and the service friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast (particularly the waffles and the coffee cake), close proximity to several local shops, and the bus tour that came with the stay.

The reason I can't give a higher rating is that we slept very poorly, which is the most important factor, in my view, for a hotel stay. This was due to (1) the very creaky queen bed in the Haefner room and (2) the very loud start-stop rhythm of the window a/c unit. I would suggest to the Inn that they replace the bedframe, and perhaps consider central a/c or a less disruptive a/c unit over the muggy summer.

On a minor note, there was also a putrid smell in the hallway outside our room - a moldy, cheesy smell. Perhaps the carpet there needs to be replaced.

Room Tip: Avoid the Haefner room.

Thank you for all the lovely things you said about our Inn and staff. We do hope to welcome you back. We’re pleased to assure you that a good night’s sleep awaits you. As soon as you alerted us to your problem, we tightened the bolts on all of our beds and tamed your overzealous air conditioner. As an historic property on the National Register of Historic Places, central air conditioning is a new-fangled no-no. As for the odor you smelled in the hallway, we’re pleased to report that it’s gone.

After the PA RenFest, we wanted to re-visit the Amish countryside and luckily for us, selected the Bird-In-Hand village Inn and Suites. We stayed in the Junior suite which was just charming! The breakfast room is so beautiful and breakfast was very satisfying with seasonal fruite, cereal and more. Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful. As others have said, this Inn has historical charm; the atmosphere was so relaxing. My husband and I sat out in the rocking chairs in the evening and watched the buggies go by. Avoid other commerical hotels and stay here when in the Amish country.

Room Tip: ask for the junior suite
