“Wonderful Getaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2014

My wife and I were looking for a special getaway spot not too far away from home. After looking at several options, we decided to try the Springfield House...what a pleasant surprise! We were greeted at the front door by Cheryl, one of the owner-innkeepers. After a brief tour of the sitting area, library, and dining room, Cheryl showed us to our room...the Oak Hall Suite. The room was spacious, warm, clean, and comfortable, and full of natural lighting from the 4 windows. Cheryl was helpful, answering our questions about the inn, the area, what to do, and where to eat. For the rest of our stay, she and Bill, the other owner-innkeeper were accessible, without being intrusive. Breakfast was made-to-order, scrumptious, and plentiful, and we enjoyed visiting with Cheryl & Bill while we ate. Coffee, water, hot teas, sodas, and some snacks were available 24 hours/day in the dining room and we felt comfortable making ourselves at home. We woke up the next morning to the beauty of the village of Boalsburg covered with snow, and we enjoyed walking the snow-covered streets as we explored the quaint shops, followed by a delicious lunch at Duffy's. All in all, a lovely experience, which we hope to repeat!

My husband and I attended an 8 pm Penn State basketball game and didn't want to drive back to Harrisburg that night, so we reserved a room at Springfield House on the recommendation of a friend and past guest. What a wonderful treat this was! We loved everything about it! The room we stayed in was the Oak Hill Suite and it was beautiful. (To be honest, all the rooms are gorgeous - we peaked in each one since we were the only guests that night.) Oak Hill was a very spacious room, which has a fireplace, king size bed, and wonderful lighting. The chocolate shop next door was an added bonus! Our breakfast was excellent, and our conversation with Cheryl during breakfast was delightful. Both her and Bill are very warm and accommodating hosts. It was a little too cold to stroll around the town of Boalsburg during this visit, so we definitely plan to return in the late spring/early summer months so we can better enjoy what Boalsburg has to offer.

We visited on a snowy January weekend. The town of Boalsburg is quant, quite and walkable. The Inn is warm and charming. Loved our visit. We never left town, walked to shops and dining. Great weekend!

Husband and I stayed here while visiting our son at Penn State. This is a beautifully cared for property. We stayed in the Oak Hall Suite (2nd floor) and it was a well-appointed and spacious room. The bathroom was decent-sized and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was tasty, but I would have wanted more options and perhaps, more food overall. Owners were businesslike, but not overly friendly. I would definitely stay here, again. It is for sale, though, and I hope if purchased and used as a bed and breakfast, they would live up to these high standards.

Spending three nights at the Springfield House was the perfect getaway while my daughter attending volleyball camp at Penn State. The house itself is charming and clean, and in a beautiful quaint little historic town. The bed was comfortable, the room was spacious, and the breakfasts plentiful and delicious. The front wrap-around porch is a wonderful place to sit and chat, or read a good book and rock the hours away peacefully. By the way, the gardens in the back are also lovely, and the chocolate shop on the premises sells chocolates that are absolutely fabulous. The small museum at the end of the main road clearly teaches one about life in this village just a short 200 years ago. At the opposite end of town is Columbus Chapel and Museum, and the Military Museum. In the center of town is Dufffy's tavern, where you will find terrific food and drink. The main strip has some very unique gift shops, home goods and clothing boutiques. I absolutely enjoyed staying at Springfield House and in the town of Boalsburg, with everything I mentioned in short walking distance from the B&B. If visiing in the summer, a half hour away is Bald Eagle State Park with a beatuiful lake beach for swimming. Even closer is Whipple Damn State Park with a smaller, but lovely lake beach for swimming. And of course, Penn State is really close. Cheryl and Bill, the owners of Springfield House, are intelligent, delightful people, who know their business, and do it well! I would definitely return to Springfield House if ever in need of a B&B in this part of PA!!!!

We travel by motorcycle and we always look for good B&B's for our overnight stays. The Springfield House did not let us down. Great location. Duff'y Tavern is a short walk down the street for drinks and good food. The inn keeper was exceptional. She answered all our questions about the house, the area and what was going on. Definitely would stay here again.

We decided to get away before Valentines day this year and looked for a nice place to stay and nearby a nice place to eat, which was Duffy's and it was great. We got the flowers, chocolate and wine special with our room. Breakfast was wonderful and we enjoyed meeting the owners more in the morning over breakfast. The bed was a bit stiff to our liking in the Oak Suite, but overall we still rate this an A.

Room Tip: they would probably all be nice.
