“What a wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2010

My daughter and I stayed overnight at Glendorn after dropping my son off at the University of Pittsburgh Bradford. What a wonderful experience! It started with an unbelievable view of the Milky Way in a very dark sky- we counted three shooting stars- as we drove down the long driveway past the gate. Our room was very comfortable, with complimentary cookies, popcorn snacks and drinks. Dinner (we chose the three course prix fixe menu) was delicious. Breakfast the next morning was delightful and the director of activities met with us to plan our day. Horseback riding was complimentary and skeet shooting with our terrific instructor very affordable. The beauty of Glendorn is all the complimentary activities that encourage your interaction with the beautiful outdoors. Had we stayed longer we could have gone snow-shoeing or snow-mobiling; or in warmer weather, trout fishing. We went hiking and saw bear, turkey and bob-cat tracks in the snow. Ice had formed on the three ponds on the property. We left with a long list of things we plan to do when we return. Glendorn is a beautiful treasure that anyone with a love of outdoor activities should not miss.

We absolutely loved everything about Glendorn! This place is probably one of the most well-kept secrets. The attention to detail the staff gives is out of this world. We loved every second of our time here. We stayed in the Balcony Room for 3 days. Lovely room. The staff, especially Damian the manager, is fantastic!! The food is equally amazing (dinners are pretty pricey, but worth it) and the location and activites are wonderful. Highly recommend it. We are definitely returning soon! We miss it already!

I stayed at Glendorn in September 2010 with some business colleagues for a coprorate retreat. Prior to the stay, we exchanged emails with the group reservations manager and confirmed the prices. A few days after leaving, I noiticed that my credit card was charged (without prior notice) twice the agreed upon price for rooms, and three times the agreed upon price for activities. It took us almost three weeks, and numerous emails and letters, to get everything straightened out and, even then, we were offered no explanation and no apology. I even wrote to the new owner, but he did not have the courtesy to respond. Needless to say, we're not going back.

We went to Glendorn Lodge in June 2010. We were surprised to see that it was a mere 3-hour drive from downtown Toronto. The drive was very enjoyable. The Lodge itself is a well-kept secret! The surroundings are enchanting and it must be truly stunning in the Fall. We brought our 2 little doggies who are allowed in their very private cabins, all located by the stream. The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable and the bathroom products were AVEEDA. The food was oustanding, a Relais-Château quality. We also had a chance to do some horsebackriding, which was complementary to the guest. Stunning trails in the mountains. The service was beyond expectation. We highly recommend this Lodge for a relaxing, private, beautiful, serene retreat, with excellent food. Dr. Marc DuPere, plastic surgeon, Toronto

I had been curious about Glendorn for several years before I finally arranged a weekend's stay as a combination birthday/anniversary gift to my husband. I had first seen it pictured in a collection of recipes from "The Great Lodges", and was puzzled to see a place in Bradford, PA included alongside hotels in Yellowstone and Glacier. After looking it up online and discovering that it was was also a Relais and Chateaux property I was even more intrigued, because frankly some of the lodges in the national parks are gorgeous and surrounded by tremendous natural beauty, but luxury hotels they're not. I finally just picked a weekend, made a reservation, and hoped that this would not end up being The Worst Birthday Surprise Ever.
Anyone who has read the other posts about this property basically knows what we found upon our arrival - spectacular setting; amazing blend of vintage family property with modern amenities; food so good it haunts you; and a range of activites from tennis, kayaking and canoeing, shooting, and hiking, to more leisurely pastimes such as croquet and lounging by the pool. (I immediately began regretting that we didn't have more time to spend. ) So given that pretty much everybody loves those things about the place, I'd like to single out just a couple of experiences which were unique joys for us:

1. Exploring the Big House. We stayed in the Balcony Room in the main lodge, or Big House, which is a lovely, very comfortable room. But we did manage to poke curious noses into every door available, and found not only other, equally beautiful guest rooms, but the amazing "boys' dorm" , a room built originally to house grandsons of the Dorn family when large groups were in residence; this room must be seen to be believed. Look for it!

2. The Hideaway. The wonderful General Manager, Chris Hampton, offered to take us up the hill to probably the most unique cabin available, built by the patriarch of the Dorn family as an escape when the rest of the family got to be too much, apparently. Suffice it to say that this tiny stone cottage has its own mechanical shooting gallery out back. Incredible.

3. And, finally, the staff. From the moment we drove up and were greeted in the parking lot, to our last leavetaking, the staff were just amazing. Never obsequious, never intrusive - just warm and professional. They make a lovely setting into a wonderful experience.

Now I'm just waiting for another season, so we can go back and discover more about this magic place. The wait will be difficult.

We wanted a relaxing but luxurious vacation in a forested setting, and Glendorn exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we drove up and saw the beautifully landscaped log "big house", we were totally charmed.. The staff was waiting to warmly welcome us after our 7 hour drive.
After a brief glitch over the room we booked not having air conditioning, we were quickly moved to the beautiful Green Suite and everything went smoothly after that.
The food was amazing and was formally served on Tiffany flatware. Ther service was very attentive but not overbearing. Natalia and Trisha were very professional.
The activities director, Damon, taught us to skeet shoot on an Italian shotgun. We hiked the trails, biked, painted watercolers by a babbling brook and read in our cozy suite during the brief rain showers.
As I said, our visit exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to return..
