My husband and I travelled to the Brandywine Valley with good friends from England. Glenn and Ashley welcomed us and provided a wonderful and memorable experience for us. They helped us plan our days, provided directions, reserved places at special restaurants, fed us delicious breakfasts and even arranged a special visit to a private home to see a collection of antique music boxes. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, but best of all was the warmth and hospitality of our innkeepers. We hope to return sometime in the near future.

My husband and I just returned from a 2-night stay at Hamanassett in celebration of our anniversary. I was very surprised to read that someone just wrote a negative review. Ashley and Glenn were absolutely wonderful hosts. I'm not sure what "Rules" the previous reviewer was talking about . I believe the only rules are to lock the door behind you when you come in, and not be loud after 10 pm. Seems quite reasonable to me!

Hamanassett is a beautiful place. It is aboslutely spotless, nicely decorated, full of interesting history, their two adorable dogs are sweet and well behaved, and the breakfast is outstanding! We were completely "Wowed" by the food and the presentation, it was really something special. Ashley and Glenn were warm and personable and they make every effort to make guests comfortable.

We can't wait to come back to Hamanassett!

  • Liked — The service, cleanliness, amazing food, pet-friendly, scenic setting, guest pantry, beautiful decor

I booked my family at the Inn. They arrived on the redeye from Seattle and I took them out to lunch. By 2:30, they were exhauted. We went over to the Inn at 2:45 in the hopes that we would be welcomed on this rainy day by a nice inkeeper. We were rudely reprimanded that check-in wasn't until 3:00 and it was only 2:20. We said that it was, in fact, 2:45. We were then allowed to sit in the cold atrium until Glenn returned to show the rooms. After learning ALL the rules, we went to the rooms. They are lovely and have many amenities. The bathrooms are great and the decor is gorgeous. My family didn't eat a breakfast there until sunday morning. They were scolded for pouring their own coffee. We thought this was why you stay at an Inn...more like home.

Too many rules and Glenn is a curmudgeon who puts people on edge. Ashley is very nice. Stay at your own risk.

It is interesting how a behavior can be so misinterpreted. We pride ourselves on pampering and giving personal service to our guests. What they interpreted as scolding was simply my offering to pour their coffee for them as we do for all our guests. Rather than being like home, we want to personally provide for their needs. We think that is the reason people go to a bed and breakfast. We had been told that these guests would need an early breakfast and were happy to make them a to go breakfast for their first morning.

As to their early arrival, we were busy getting the rooms ready so they would be perfect. I did invite them in and asked them to please wait in the solarium which was not cold while we did a final check of their room. I came back down five minutes later to escort them up to their rooms.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Hamanassett B&B. The house is absolutely stunning and extremely well looked-after. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous (we stayed at the Devon) and the only thing we found difficult was to choose whether to stay in the room or in the living room by the fire place to read our books.

The owners of the B&B are extremely friendly and very very courteous. They went to great lengths to ensure that our stay was a memorable one and not only remembered but made sure that my dietary requirements were met. Our stay at the Hamanassett B&B exceeded our expectations from every viewpoint and we will definitely recommend it to our friends and will most certainly go back.

  • Liked — Everything was amazing but the house itself is gorgeous
  • Disliked — Nothing, we had absolutely no complaints

Upon our daughter's recommendation, we stayed at the Hamanassett B&B while visiting her in Phildelphia. Ashley and Glenn Mon were gracious hosts. Our room was so comfortable and spacious, and beautifully decorated - as is the rest of the house. Breakfast was yummy and elegant. Be sure to request Ashley's "special syrup" - wow! is all we can say about it. We mentioned we loved dogs and Ashley promptly brought them outside and we relaxed and chatted with her on the porch while playing with the dogs. We most certainly will stay there again, this time for more than one night!

As we had a friend's wedding to attend in Pennsylvania, we thought we would take the opportunity to spend two weeks in Pennsylvania and Virginia. They ended up being two of the most enjoyable weeks we have ever had on holiday but our stay in the Hamanassett B&B was by far the highlight of our trip. The Brandywine valley is an area rich in history and staying in Hamanassett made us feel like we were staying right in the heart of it whilst providing us with all the comforts and luxury of the modern day. Glenn and Ashley could not have been more welcoming as hosts. Everything about Hamanassett reflected the care they put into making their guests feel at home, from the beautifully appointed rooms and the wonderful breakfasts to the help in choosing places of interest to visit. We were very sad when our stay at Hamanassett came to an end and hope very much to visit again. UK B&Bs have a lot to live up to now!

An outstanding experience! We stayed two nights on our way to the Chesapeake Bay. We enjoyed it so much we modified our plans to stay two more nights on our return home! Everything was first class - from the rooms (large and tastefully furnished) to the breakfasts (delicious-skip lunch!). Glenn and Ashley obviously take great pride in seeing that their guests have a wonderful experience.

The building and grounds are worth the trip - not to mention the best chocolate chip cookies (baked fresh every day) you will ever eat.

THE place to stay!
