The Hyeholde restaurant is a 75 year old Bavarian home in the woods of Moon Township, part of which was originally built as a restaurant. It’s not really that hard to find and you will be pleasantly surprised at the unique setting and architecture…a memorable place to celebrate that special occasion. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable with respect to the menu and wines. The “Hyeholde traditional” bisque is worth a try, but the elk main course is one of the best! Even if you are not sure about straying away from beef, go for it. The elk meat is leaner than beef, but at the same time, very tender. Being farm raised and imported from New Zealand, the taste is mild and not at all gamey. The pine nut crust on the elk adds just the right amount of seasoning to complement the elk meat. The accompanying mushroom pudding (more of a “stuffing”) and heirloom beets make the meal a notable experience. My wife had the beef filet and enjoyed it and the accompanying boursin potatoes were divine! Make sure you tour around the restaurant before or after dinner and check out all the different rooms on the main floor and upstairs.
