“great get away”
Reviewed 3 July 2008

We stayed here two nights, Sat and Sun, in the Jaccuzi Villa (Birchwood 4). The space was very nice with a king bed in one corner, a jaccuzi in another, nice couch and chair in another, then the bathroom and entrance taking up the rest of the space. The shower is clean but old, there is a vcr but no dvd. I can understand someone feeling it could be updated but we were very satisfied. The grounds were very nice. We were able to enjoy the pool by ourselves on both days. The food in the restaurant was good but pricey. Breakfast on the weekend was good but on Monday morning it was minimal. The staff was great. Other guests were friendly and pretty much everyone said they were repeat customers. It feels like a special place and we look forward to returning. One piece of advice... we booked on the Inn's web site and did the last minute special which saved us a bundle. Otherwise this would have been out of our range.

our room windows (2) were directly on top of the restaurant and their venting fans. When we arrived if was 80+ degrees and upon checking the pool found there was no water in it. The staff was friendly but the inn is in need of major updating. The hallways were narrow and dark wallpapered. The furnishings in the room were average at best. The TV which had to be at least 20 years old was retrofitted to adapt to remote controls!! Channel selection was limited. Nearby is the newly opened Mt. Airy Casino which was worth taking a trip to. Outlet shopping in Tannersville is within 30 minutes. We did not eat at the restaurant onsite but there seemed to be a fairly local crowd there on a Friday evening around 7 PM. There are a few "cottages" at the facility which were more expensive but may be worth the upgrade.

We have stayed here for many years because it is one of the few places that has king size beds and fireplaces and yet is not MAP nor a resort. This year we stayed in Jacuzzi Villa that had a king bed. It was very comfy and beautifully appointed. Other units in which we have stayed are the Valley View and the Country Cottage (queen size bed).
But earlier comments about breakfast are right. Weekend breakfast with chef there was wonferful with freshly-made eggs or omelets. But during the week, we, too, had to scrounge for place settings or food. It should not be the duty of those paying $300+ a night to tell the staff about the need to refill anything in my opinion.
Our dinners in the restaurant were both very good. The only thing lacking was their supposed extensive wine list -- it wasn't.

We stayed in the Mountain Jacuzzi Cottage. Nice digs and huge jacuzzi...but we wish the website had explained that you had to drive to get to the main part of the inn from this secluded accommodation. We prefer to walk.

We had a nice, leisurely dinner our first evening. The pool was well-maintained we we spent some time there.

A buffet breakfast was included (from 8-11). On our first morning we went at 10 and there was hardly any food left, no one replaced anything, and we had to go to different tables to assemble silverward and glasses. Finally we left and went down the road to get something to eat. On our second morning the experience was completely different - smiling host greeted us and food was plentiful. As we checked out we told them about the problem with breakfast our first morning and they said we should have told them at the time. We tried, but there was no one there to tell.

All in all, it was nice, but a bit inconsistent. We would go back but would stay in a cottage within walking distance of the main building. For more info and to see our photos go to http://www.weloveourlife.com/inns/cresco.html

We spent a long weekend (Thurs-Sun) this month in the cottage called the Chalet. It was exactly as pictured on the web site -- a very large room with queen bed, several chairs & a love seat, refrigerator, a fireplace, and best of all, a sliding door out to a very private patio overlooking the beautifully-groomed grounds. (Many of the cottages there have decks/patios, but few offer the privacy this one does. You could have coffee in your jammies out on the chaise lounge and no one would see you!) The room was spotlessly clean. Buffet breakfast was included in the price and it was exceptional -- sausage/bacon, eggs, beautiful fresh fruit, many bread choices and more. We did not use the pool but could see that it was clean and being enjoyed by many guests.
Dinner Friday night (with reservations at 7 pm) was a little disappointing, and the service was very slow. We didn't get our salads until 7:30 and our entrees didn't come until 8:10. No apologies or explanations were offered, so that must be the norm. Our rib-eye steaks ($28) were cooked to nearly
well-done although we had ordered "medium." Others dining with us were surprised when they got one of the the specials, Shrimp Parmesan on linguini, and it turned out to be breaded, fried shrimp in red sauce. The wine by the glass was a very generous serving .
The staff was friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff stopped me in the parking lot after our second night to ask if we wanted to have the room serviced, and I told them, " We just need clean towels and glasses." I should have also specified that we wanted the complimentary coffee/tea/milk supplies we had used re-stocked, as they did not do that.
The air conditioning was from a window unit and made for a bit of stuffiness overnight -- we weren't comfortable leaving the slider open for security reasons -- but during the day the open screen door allowed for a lot of fresh air.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. We also thought this would be a great place for a family reunion, as there are large fields which would lend themselves to picnics, softball, frisbee, etc. and kids could run freely about the property.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Mountain Jacuzzi Cottage for a long weekend in February. We were not impressed. The fireplace did not work, and was never fixed the entire weekend, despite our numerous requests for them to do so. You could only fill the jacuzzi partway before the hot water ran out. One of the bedside tables was "falling apart", & when I tried to use the sink, the handle came off. Any time we tried to cook anything, the smoke alarm went off. I think this was partly due to the hot pink candle wax I saw had been spilled into the toaster. The deck was littered with cigarette butts. Service was horrible, our bathrooom was not cleaned the entire weekend and all they could say was "we'll leave a note." It's private & quiet? If you don't mind sharing yard and driveway with someone who lives there, and a dog that barks its head off at you every time you come and go. (I love dogs, but was hoping for a quiet weekend) Don't even get me started on the restaurant. I would never go back to this place again. Over-rated and Over-priced.
