It is January in the north east and unbelievably it was warm enough for a motorcycle ride so we went to the James Michener Museum in Doylestown. I really wanted to see the exhibit "the Painterly Voice, Bucks County's Fertile Ground". For a Bucks County resident it was great and I tend to think it would be a great exhibit for anyone interested in art and art culture. Doylestown is a cool little town with plenty of nice restaurants but we ate before we left. Ok so it was a little cool riding that motorcyle so our first stop was in the cute little museum cafe for a hot cocoa.
The folks at the front desk were nice as can be and provided us with a lendable map and directed us up stairs and pointed out all the exhibits of the day on the map so we wouldnt miss any.
Dont miss a visit to James Michener's office which is downstairs to get an idea of the man, his background, writing, and philanthropy.

There is a broad representation of the best that Bucks County artists of the last two centuries have to offer. There are always excellent travelling exhibits in the rotating gallery areas.

We had no idea that this museum is such a treasure. We could have stayed there all day but had arranged to meet family in town. Will definitely go back when in the area. It was fascinating to see James Michener's writing desk in a nook in the lobby. We caught a terrific exhibition of local impressionist art, which was an eye-opener. The cafe is nice but on the small side. There's a very pretty outdoor courtyard where one can eat or rendezvous when weather permits, which it did on our warm November day. If you're an art-lover, do go to this gallery and museum; and make sure that you allow enough time to really enjoy it.

This museum is a great day trip with your best friend....and then have lunch. The museum isn't the "city" museum feel of NYC or Philly.
