Hargrave House
Ranked #1 of 4 Doylestown B&B and Inns

Historic Doylestown, home to ceramic tile artisan Henry Chapman Mercer, best-selling novelist James Michener and other noteworthies, is a charming and pleasant little slice of early America, full of well-preserved homes, good restaurants, cute shops and even a homegrown, downtown movie theatre. The Hargrave House bed and breakfast lies in the center of town, with seven rooms in a renovated historic building and free parking in a convenient, off-street lot. The suites are spacious, spotless and comfortable, the service is friendly and accommodating, the rates are a good value. Extras included bottled water for the Keurig coffee maker, cooked-to-order breakfast and unlimited use of their big, yellow umbrellas for rainy-day urban hiking. Very peaceful and quiet.

Together with my colleagues we travel to Doylestown for Business regularly and we always choose to stay in Hargrave House. We tried number of different hotels in the area in the past with overall disappointment. At Hargrave House rooms and facilities are excellent and a good Internet connection allows us to work from the hotel. Breakfasts are best in the area by far and the Inn keeper is always happy to help and very flexible. Location is also worth mentioning as being in central Doylestown provides plethora of dining opportunities in the evening.

I would recommend Hargrave House at any time, it is always my choice when I'm in the area.

Room Tip: Rooms are excellent, good facilities, desk if you choose to work with a reliable Internet connection...

My husband and I visited family in Doylestown Borough over the Christmas holiday. Rather than stay with our children we decided to stay at this charming inn. Our room was on the third floor which was a little inconvenient dragging luggage up three flights of stairs. But once we got to our room in was worth the hike! The room was fairly large, decorated nicely and was warm, clean and had the most comfortable king size bed. The innkeeper Sandy was very gracious and served a nice breakfast. I might also add our room had a Keurig coffe maker in it which you could either brew coffee or tea. We would definitely stay there again!

Really nice location near local shops and restaurants. Quaint, has that inn-type charm. Hostess checking me in was gracious, very helpful and super patient.

Beds were really comfortable. Electric fireplace was a nice touch. Big jacuzzi in the room but did not use it.

Next morning, breakfast was as described in earlier reviews- supermarket English muffins and bread, local jam and butter, made to order eggs, fresh fruit. OJ was store-bought, no baked goods.

All in all, not a bad stay. Breakfast was on the low quality end when compared to three other B&Bs that I've visited this year in the North-East.

Just returned from a "girl's weekend" with my sister, friend and their grown daughters. We picked Doylestown as a charming town with lots to do and it and the surrounding area didn't disappoint.

First the pros of Hargrave House: location is great, walk out the door to shops and restaurants; beds are super comfortable although not sure they were all kings as advertised; great having the Keurigs in the rooms and mini frigs; very clean.

Cons: breakfast is not what I would expect from a high quality B&B, yes they make eggs to order or French toast but absolutely no baked goods like muffins, etc. breads were all prepackaged and when oatmeal was offered, at first they were going to use instant packs! Not what I have ever experienced at a nice B&B. In fact everything was from Costco. Wonder why they don't pick up some local baked goods from the bakery two doors away?

No comfortable sitting areas anywhere in the rooms or in a common area.

One of our group tried to take a shower one morning and there was no hot water. The response was somewhat incredulous as though my friend had to be mistaken and no real apologies made.

So overall, it is a relatively nice B&B but not sure it lives up to its reputation.

Our son and his fiance found this charming place while venue searching for their September 2012 wedding. Once they decided on a Doylestown wedding, we booked all 7 rooms at The Old Hargrave House, splitting the rooms between both families and the bride and groom. This was a perfect environment for the families, both adults and children, to connect in a very personal and relaxed way. The breakfasts were fantastic, the rooms were large enough to accommodate both adults and children and very clean. The location was perfect for the various wedding weekend activities centered in beautiful downtown Doylestown. We were able to walk to the rehearsal dinner restaurant and more importantly walk back to the Inn following the wedding After Party at a local pub. We were able to walk around Doylestown and enjoy all that it offers in the periods of down time. The children also loved to connect and play in the lovely court yard.

Lorna and Perry were perfect hosts. Anything we requested was quickly accommodated. I asked Lorna if there was any way we could invite other family and friends who were staying in the area to come to The Old Hargrave House the morning after the wedding to eat and mingle with the families. She not only said of course, but she began to give me food options and made other suggestions. It worked out perfectly and everyone who came by that morning enjoyed a great breakfast and had a nice relaxing morning mingling with both families and our son and his new wife.

Both families had such a great time we were talking about doing it again next year on the anniversary. If you have the opportunity I encourage you to visit this lovely Inn and experience the wonderful hospitality of Lorna and Perry.

I found Hargrave House on tripadvisor when I was checking out lodging in the Doylestown area for a girls weekend away, and we were certainly not disappointed! We were warmly greeted by Sandy, and she explained all of the ins and outs of the place. She recommended a fabulous place for dinner (Paganini's) and cooked us a great breakfast to order the next morning. Lorna greeted us on Sunday morning for another great breakfast and made us chuckle with her stories. The place was charming and the beds were divine! The Keurig machines in the rooms were greatly appreciated by all of us, and the adjoining rooms were perfect for the four of us and our mah jongg game (we also appreciated the card table that just appeared) and the place had a very homey feel. We will definitely stay here again for a girls weekend, and I'll even bring my husband for a weekend getaway.

Room Tip: The Patio and Garden rooms are adjoining, so great for friends.
